By Coconuts Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- After a recent comedy totally bombed with audiences, the film’s inexperienced producer nearly killed himself early this morning.

Nopporn Inthornsawas, president of Aomtwo Entertainment, threatened to jump from the sixth floor of an office building in Yan Nawa district while his friends and relatives tried to talk him down.

Four days ago period comedy “Sri Thanonchai 555+” was released to cinemas, according to witness and acquaintance Pimchana Pimsurasopa. In the following days, it seems no one wanted to see the film. Yesterday it was removed from all theaters except for a few in the capital.

After a long time, the 46-year-old film executive changed his mind and proceeded to experience some sort of breakdown.

The film cost an estimated THB40 million but only earned THB30,000 at the box office.

Pimchana said Nopporn had no prior experience producing films and only did so after a relative persuaded him to join the venture. [read more...]

Maybe the budget didn't run to a comedy sounds effects machine. That would be a big mistake. How else are the audience suppose to know when to laugh?

Aww.....this is all about face....

It was a slap in the face when the movie bombed--it just all blew up in his face. He couldn't face his backers so he finally decided to face the music, and disappear off the face of the earth. He was going to cut off his nose to spite his face, but alas he was unable to let his face hit the pavement below.

Ahh a 'relative' persuaded him to join the venture.

Face is a wonderful thing.

Just a naive man being conned by a 'relative' into some quick rich scheme.

30 million budget? I wonder what the real budget is, before being pocketed by the people involved.

By the sounds of things, the only bone he couldn't have broken had he jumped would be his "funny" bone.

Publicity stunt? Going for the sympathy vote audience maybe?

What? A relative cons someone into believing they can make a movie. He must have an ego the size of Mars to fall for a con like that.

Sorry but if you hire a bunch of people who have some experience in movies previously they can't make a movie that bad. It made only 30k?

Family viewers would have paid more than rhat, or is this possibly the worst movie ever made. By Thai standards this really must be a rubbish movie.

A sad thing is that so many times when someone fails, he never tries again, Yet failure can be a great education if a person is reflective.

Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because "Disney "lacked imagination and had no good ideas." Several of his ventures failed until he produced "Snow White" and of course others and then developed Disneyland.

Steven Spielberg was rejected by the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts multiple times.but went on to produce the blockbuster "Jaws" and many others.

Soichiro Honda's unique vision got him ostracized by the Japanese business community. but he went on to revolutionize the Japanese auto industry.

There are a lot more. LINK

He went to the same school of economics as the meatheads that dreamt up the rice pledging scam (ah I mean scheme). Pay much more than you expect to earn. Thailand the hub of economic strategy!

Having watched the trailer i must say it did not look promising.

It must be quite hard to screw up a traditional story.....

Maybe comedy is not his area.

He does, however, seem to have a flair for the dramatic. wink.png

It's amazing what can be accomplished when one values his self confidence and talents more than he values saving face.wai2.gifwai2.gifwai2.gif

I don't think there is any con going on here. Invest in a movie and it becomes a big hit you make a nice profit. When they set out to make the movie I doubt they said " let's make a crap movie and keep ourselves busy for a few months" . Everyone would have been dreaming of the profit to be made. It could happen to top directors/ studios in Hollywood and does all the time.

The real movie to be made here is about a producer involved in a crap thai movie who losses everything and try's to kill himself.... Low budget indie movie because 95% of the population can't handle a serious movie with adult themes and no whizz bang soundtrack running in the background.

More like a shaggy jump story.

The film is OK. It is the curfew that stop movies goers.

...a musical comedy about Suthep and the beer heiress was never gonna work..

If feel sorry for this guy, he tried and failed , now its back to making somtam for the tourists.

What's with the chupa-chup in a period movie?

Or was it a comedy prop, funny because it is so incongruous?

Now I never saw that movie but sure, it can't be as terrible as some of the headlines or articles I read lately.

After a recent comedy totally bombed with audiences

Suppose CoconutsBangkok and many other English "farang media" can't either afford or are not educated

enough to use the oxford dictionary and have to resolve to English street slang.

Now according to the "Urban Dictionary", words related to "bombed' Include:
bomb - bombs - bombing - terrorist
awesome - cool - amazing - sweet - sexy - hot
shit - sick - sex - drunk - wasted - hammered - dope - weed

After a long time, the 46-year-old film executive changed his mind and proceeded to experience some sort of breakdown

Changed his mind about what? Become journalist or editor of one of the "Farang News"

It's pretty bombed, not more moderators, journalists or editors change their mind and
proceeded to experience some sort of suicide.

Wish everyone a bombing day cheesy.gif

Maybe he should have thought about showing it before 12.00pm. midnight then? whistling.gif

Now that would have made a fantastic movie idea, about a producer who want to kill him self

because his movie bombed out, I'm sure he'd be making money on that plot....
