The Temple Committee at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep met with the Assistant Monk Dean in Division 7 and abbot of Wat Pra That Doi Suthep met with the Fine Arts Department to discuss the proposed dome shaped roof of the new view tower at Wat Doi Suthep. The view tower’s roof shape had come under widespread criticism among locals for blocking the view of the Wat and marring the view of Doi Suthep.

The group agreed to scrap plans for the top floor and dome shaped roof of the new building which will now be developed into a terrace with translucent materials. The new building will house

and a museum. The group also inspected the roofs of pavilions around the Buddha’s relic pagoda and ensured that the construction plans were following the Department of Fine Arts guidelines.

Wanlop Namwongprom of the Public Relations Committee of the temple said view tower had been aimed at serving visitors ad worshipers with comfort as it would be roofed and it was not for the temple’s own sake However, as the committee realized people’s concerns, the makeover of the building was now in process.
