ONCB seizes assets linked to drug dealing cases in the North

CHIANG MAI, 23 June 2014 (NNT) – The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) have seized several assets linked to drug-dealing cases over the course of 8 months in the North, accounting for a total of 1,404 items worth 565 million baht.

The seized assets have been collected since October 1st 2013 to May 31st 2014. Some of these assets include cars, land deeds, gold, cash, and bank accounts.

Officials said that these items were connected to illegal drug-dealing operations in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, and Lampang provinces. The ONCB would later scrutinize these assets to determine its legality.

ONCB Secretary-General Pol. Gen. Pongsapat Pongcharoen told the media that the assets would be examined and traced to seek out possible perpetrators and accomplices.

He explained the officials’ regulations on freezing and seizing assets related to narcotic cases are aimed towards preventing offenders from moving, hiding, or laundering assets.

Pol. Gen. Pongsapat also vowed to take legal action against anybody who provided assistance to these narcotics operations.

See my post from another thread:

Waste of (American) taxpayer money. Though the Thai government are more than happy to receive millions of dollars every year from the US government, of course.

e.g.:

The ONCB received 4,329,000 USD of Financial Support from the US Government 1999

The ONCB received 6,103,238 USD of Financial support from the US government 2000

Are you Americans happy that your tax dollars are being wasted fighting the failed war on drugs in foreign countries?

1) Bilateral Cooperation USA
Since 1974, the US government has annually provided financial support through the Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS) to the work of narcotics control in Thailand under the bilateral agreement between USG and RTG. US-Thaibilateral cooperation in narcotics control are in the four program areas of narcotic crops control, demand reduction, law enforcement, and regional narcotics control assistance.

My happiness is not dependent on things I cannot control

My happiness is not dependent on things I cannot control

You'd do quite well living in a totalitarian state. Oppressive authorities would wish more people were like you as it would make their job so much easier.

great news, lets see all these idiots lose the lot, all the druggies will scream and bitch about it because they cannot help themselves so they need to blame everyone else for their addiction, pathetic really does describe those that insist that it is ok to do. Anyone dealing drugs needs to suffer the full force of the law, while some benefits(medically) can be associated to it the majority are simply people that cannot face up to their daily lives without being doped up in their "happy" space.
