Skin of the teeth. A maddening game to watch for Argentina fans.

No Rojo for the quarters.

yes jd.skin of their teeth again.if it wasn't for the swiss goalie the argie fans would have needed paper rollsbah.gif

the goalie goof, what he must have been thinking when he let a ball roll over the dead ball line when he had enough time to take the lace out,he should have picked it up and booted it from hand as far as he could with just 3mins.to go.

but no he kicked up field from a dead ball only to an argie player just inside the half way line who headed on to messi who drew what defence the swiss had[3players] who in turn passed to di-maria unmarked GOAL.

How ironic that Di Maria got the goal. He had a dreadful game and kept giving it away, He did however looked more lively than anyone in extra time had a good effort saved and when he got the chance his finish was excellent after an inch perfect pass from Messi.

Switzerland very close to the equalizer when a header hit the post and it rebounded too quickly for the player to put it in. Overall very poor game.

Di Maria has always driven me crazy. Though he is a super talent he almost always tries to do too much, particularly for Argentina. He is much more disciplined for Real Madrid. He does have many positives though, not the least of which is a huge relentless motor. He never seems to tire. I remember a match in the altitude of La Paz when he was the only Argentine player still with any oomph in the second period.

Lots of chinks in Argentina's armor. No Aguero. Higuain clearly not himself. The defense a bit shaky though they don't break often. What's not being talked about much is the midfield. Mascherano is not Andrea Pirlo and doesn't function well with being a sweeper and a playmaker along with Gago. Gago is coming off injury and not really imposing himself. Once again left to Messi to do too much. I wish Sabella would be quicker to bring Enzo Perez from Benfica off the bench, but it looks like Perez is down the pecking order behind "Mr. Backpass" Lucas Biglia and Ricky Alvarez.

I'm still hopeful, but time is growing short.

Impressive that Mascherano has not talked himself in to several yellow cards yet.

He should had one yesterday.

Mashe is an ornery sort isn't he ? One of my fav Argentinos. Some of his ire directed at the little diving shit Shaquira, or whatever his name is. That last dive for the final free kick was worthy of Robben.

True.

We witnessed one of his explosions after that dive.

I though it would be cute if the Swiss managed to win here.

But after watching the extremely self centered cheat and amazingly selfish diver Shaqiri, and the diver Behrami (who flew through the air after contact with half his size Messi), I was glad they went out.

Back to koko clocks and cheese making.
