Antochili with his captors.

PHUKET: -- Immigration police in Bangkok yesterday (June 29) arrested a Russian national suspected of cheating investors out of more than B20 million in Phuket property deals more than two years ago.

Acting on a warrant issued by Phuket Provincial Court in September, 2011, police arrested Vladimir Antochili, 29, at an apartment on Soi Ramkhamhaeng in the Hua Mak area of Bangkok at 2.30pm.

Antochili, a resident of Sweden, is accused of being part of a gang of Russians who misappropriated funds intended for property purchases in Phuket after setting up a supposed real estate agency targeting wealthy Russian investors.

The hunt for Antochili and his accomplices was launched after the owner of a property for sale in Chalong reported to police that a buyer had paid money to the gang, but he, the seller, had received nothing.

Investigations revealed that the gang had received three payments of around B3 million each, as well as commission from the seller, together totalling some B10.5 million.

The gang members are also accused of fraud in another, similar, property deal worth Bt12 million.

After his arrest, Antochili was sent under escort to Phuket, where he is now in custody at Chalong Police Station. The other gang members reportedly left Thailand some time ago.

Good God, not the pointing or "that doesn't sound like a ************ name"...........................Please God NO!!!

Pattaya & Phuket have nothing but full of Russian junks!

In this day and age it is virtually impossible to go by a person's name to determine nationality.

Many TV'ers have wrongly thought I'm Welsh (then accused me of not speaking native English), simply by my name.

I miss the pointing too, why did they stop pointing, best entertainment ever to see a bunch of BIB's pointing at the perpetrator. BIB: "here he is, we caught him, aren't we clever?" :-)

Antochili is a Georgian last name. But his first name indicates where he was probably born and raised.

Surname sounds like Georgian. Russian name but Swedish resident. So let's say he is Swedish. Same that Yugoslavian soccer player which is Swedish resident for a long time and nobody says he is Yugoslavian coz of he's a good boy. That's just funny guys...

It does not matter what country he is from, the important thing is that this scumbag has been caught and hopefully the others will be caught very soon. I can't believe it has taken 3 years to catch him.

Job well done, there are too many scumbag Russians, that are mafia, here in Thailand, time to rid them all once and for all clap2.gif

...and yet another reason to dislike russians......the good news is ''he cheated other russian commrades'',cause he cant speak a word of english

I am trying (not really) to work out why it took the BIB and or Immigration 2 years to locate a redheaded Russian in Phuket. No,,do not tell me…corruption…never!!

Ban them and stop giving them visa-facilities...NOW!

I may be taking a wild stab in the dark here but maybe, just maybe it's because he wasn't hiding in Phuket?

Why no pointing???

They're all pointing down, to where he's going . . .

".and yet another reason to dislike russians" Isn't it nice when we find support for our prejuices? You are painting with too broad a brush, my dear xenophobic friend. I taught at black high school (I am white). I told them "Don't hate me because I'm white: that is too lazy. Take the time to find something about me personally to hate." Mod that a bit for Russians.

That said, any investigation into just who gave him protection for last two years or so? Shouldn't those who looked other way face some music too?

Now this is only a theory of mine, but recently Thailand have started getting stricter on 'certain' visa's, well Russia was recently a member of the G8, until they were kicked out over the Crimea crisis in Ukraine, so now all citizen's of members of the G7 countries (UK, USA, Canada, France, Italy, Germany & Japan) are having no problems regarding Visa's, but now Russian citizens are, hmmm food for thought, I'm just wondering if Thailand is using the fact that because Russia was kicked out of the G8 it gives them 'an excuse' to give Russians a hard time, or better still sending them home

...and yet another reason to dislike russians......the good news is ''he cheated other russian commrades'',cause he cant speak a word of english

why, pray tell, makes that cheating "good news"?
