BANGKOK, July 4 -- Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security will send its report to update the US on Thailand's serious efforts to tackle human trafficking.

Vichien Chavalit, permanent secretary of the ministry, said he told all concerned agencies to report their latest information on anti-human trafficking work so that his ministry could compile a report and send it to the US to prove that Thailand did not ignore human trafficking.

The Thai response occurred after the US moved Thailand from its Tier 2 watch list to the worst category, Tier 3, registering countries with the most serious human trafficking problems in its latest 2013 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Ministry of Labour are joining forces to deal with human trafficking in Thailand.

Mr Vichien said they formed a working group to follow up anti-human trafficking efforts monthly. It will also coordinate such efforts with neighboring countries.

On July 21, he said, concerned authorities will discuss the issue with employers and important topics will include the complicity of some individuals in government service in smuggling alien workers.

DSI director-general Chatchawan Suksomjit said Thai authorities took standard actions to cope with human trafficking and he would report progress of the actions in Thailand through the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to the US.

Puntarik Smiti, deputy permanent secretary for labour, said the Ministry of Labour successfully launched a one-stop alien labour service center in Samut Sakhon province and would open such facilities in seven more provinces of Samut Prakan, Chon Buri, Chachoengsao, Ayutthaya, Rayong, Surat Thani and Songkhla on July 7. Why must Thailand report to USA? Are the American the father of Thais ore what? What's next? Thailand have to report to EU? Why stop there? Report to China, Japan, Singapore, Australia, etc?

While I abhor human rights abuses at the highest level as recently exposed... I would not be too worried too much about what the USA thinks about the situation in Thailand

It seems The Thai authorities are bending over backwards to kiss US and EU butts.

They should just get on with the task at hand instead of preoccupying themselves with jumping through hoops in the hope they get the US to amend its decision.

Things are changing very fast and I am expecting over the next 2 years to see the USA totally brought to its knees and that goes for the EU and the IMF, and World Bank.

Things are heating up and the rest of the world has had enough of the US and their foreign policy and how they enrich themselves at the expense of the rest of the world.

Lot's of countries are already plotting against the USA, wheels are already in motion as we speak and the US, UK and the EU are trying their best to keep it all under wraps.

Thailand has to have the foresight to see that their attention is currently focused in the wrong direction. The next two years will see a mega-meltdown in the west.... mark my words, the world is soon going to look much different. If you think this planet is unstable now.... It aint nothing on what's to come.

When they report to the US, they are indirectly reporting to those other countries you mention except China who's track record is worse than Thailand's.

There should not have to be a reporting , if Thailand had any moral back bone, it never ceases in Amazing Thailand, of the shonky methods, un-handed slimy characters, murdering , disappearing persons , wildlife poaching , people trafficking ,Thai mafia, you name it, Thailand can do it, the corridors of Thailand's dark side , reek of excreta in large quantities , major channels in the west should get their arse down to amazing Thailand and show the world the dark side of Thailand, TAT would love that. coffee1.gif

The report must have some serious in depth analysis given how quickly it has been completed. All face, no body.

When Thai's realise they are no better than those from other countries, then there may be some progress

You misunderstand. The reasoning for reporting is to gain cooperation in combatting criminal activity. Most countries form alliances in combatting certain criminal activity that cross international boundaries. The other reason is for monetary aid. When different countries cooperate they gain monetary and training support from other countries. All in all it is about International cooperation. Do not be swayed by the mixture of political rhetoric inside news stories.

Thai efforts to halt human trafficking can't be taken seriously until there are major Thai Mr. Big busts. Land owners, ship owners, government , police, and military included. Never a Thai Mr. Big busted or rounded up. Until that happens, it's no dice.

Not much to report really, except when they arrest a few underage bar girls/boys, and make a big publicity stunt out of it.

Te US is past its use-by date. Fageddabowtit. Hypocritical nation led by shameless shifty unreliable libtards. No-one has to answer to them anymore.

So if no-one worries about what the US stand on human trafficking may be......and if the US does not keep a vigilant outlook on slavery and trafficking, checking countries for their human rights issues,....then who else does?

Who else has the pull that the US has on this and other contraversial issues?.....the UN??.....UK.....

Already this report is having an impact on Thai products......something needed to be done.....otherwise the Thais would continue to sit on their hands.

Hope they send the recent newspaper articles, as they have been very powerful and persuasive? Don't know what else has changed.

It seems that Thailand is more worried about what the USA think about Thailand's appalling record on human trafficking tha the actual problem itself

It looks like, having been caught by the boss or headmaster, they now feel obliged to show how good they are responding.

All window dressing to appease the American's and EU and prevent any economic redress.

No one seems to care about the injustice and immorality, or even bothers to mention it.

100% agree with you (this is a first!!), nobody is interested on addressing the actual problem, just working out how to appease other conutries.

.......yeah that's right...kiss their ass. How pathetic and weak.

Once again, this is my opinion. You can disagree with it. If it pisses you off, then blame yourself for getting pissed. If you want to report me, go ahead...you are the troll

They don't have to report to the USA. If they want to do business with them they will have to meet the standards the USA lays down for them. The same as if the USA wants to do business with Thailand they must meet the standards Thailand lays down for them. Low as the standards are.

Also when much of the world looks to the USA for guidance in this matter rather than investigate it them selves it is advisable to try to live up to the standards that the USA is asking for. That in no way means Thailand shouldn't live up to the standards any how regardless of what other countries think. Let other countries call them goody goody two shoes. It is the rite thing to do.

The ranking was based on the work of the PTP red shirt government. There is a new sheriff in town and he is changing things. He is uniting the different resource's and it won't be long before we see a few people transferred out of the effort. Those that are left will up their efforts in eliminating it. Unfortunately for Thailand it will be another year before we see the results in the USA rankings.

Hopefully other countries will see results in the efforts being put into solving the problem and respond accordingly to them.wai.gif

Oh how the America-haters are going to eat this up! But you think this is bad? 'Just wait 'til Hillary moves in.

Wow, what an ignorant post! Perhaps folks should read the US State Departments Annual Anti-Human Trafficking Report, it is mandated by a Presidential Instruction regarding US Government actions to Combat Trafficking in Persons and will explain why Thailand feels a need to "report to the US." Nations which are rated Tier 3 are subject to losing US financial aid and other actions such as favored trade status. This report is a positive step in Combating Trafficking in Persons on a Global scale and is considered a "benchmark" report used by Governmental and Non-Governmental agencies around the world. Do not let your Anti-USA bias cloud the good news regarding Thailands efforts mentioned in the article.

@rbmcn - you're quite right: I agree with you about the current leadership in the U.S. But with respect to "mandates" like this, no-one who doesn't want their foreign aid handout or their favored trade status has to answer to the U.S. 'Never did. It's a quid pro quo scenario. It's a fundamental foreign relations concept, and a longstanding one. And that would be EVERYWHERE; NOT just with the U.S. I'd say that most nations SHOULD go their own way and stop accepting handouts from the U.S. (I'm convinced most of it just winds up in fatcat local politicians' bank accounts anyway), but I bite my tongue in this case because, as chuck details, combating human trafficking IS a worthwhile goal and it seems this reporting is an effective means of doing that.

1. We scared all the illegals to go home
