Smartphone connection to HDMI on TV

Featured Replies

Hi teccies - anyone know whether the average Android phone/tablet can be connected to the HDMI input on a regular TV? I just want to use the TV as a mirror for the screen on my phone (a recent Lenovo). I see some machines (eg one or two cheap Acer tablets) have a dedicated outlet, but I also see cables available for many more phones etc. So do most phones' output work in an HDMI?

Related info: I just tested wireless HDMI (a dongle now available in BKK at about 1500 baht) on both PC and Android. Unfortunately, although it does work, there is a slight lag which makes watching live sport (via a paid subscription I have) jerky and not really acceptable. The picture on my Lenovo phone over wifi is fantastic, but not good on the eyes over an 80 minute game! I just want to plug it into the big screen.

I have a S660, but it was more of a general question.

If the phone and TV support MHL then you could do it via USB .. otherwise trial and error. Get a micro USB to HDMI cable (saw one at Tesco) and try.

I am trying the same with an iPhone 4, Nokia N8 orSamsung Note II.

Up to now, I couldn't figure out how to do it.

Note 2 has MHL. See here :

Apple sell an 'HDMI adapter' to use with an i-pad but not sure if i-phones are also compatible.
