Samui Diving Instructor Accused Of Molesting Chinese Tourist
By Khaosod English

SURAT THANI — A Burmese diving instructor on Koh Samui island has been accused of sexually harassing a 14-year-old tourist from China.

The victim's mother told Samui police that she and the victim joined a tour group as part of a diving trip to the Ang Thong islands on 5 July.

The trip was overseen by a 40-year-old Burmese diver instructor called Chai, the Chinese tourist said.

The tourist said she noticed her daughter was unusually quiet on the way back to Samui Island after the diving trip was over. Upon questioning, her daughter said she was molested by Mr. Chai during the diving session.

Pol.Lt. Navee Jittraban said yesterday that police have already interrogated Mr. Chai. According to Pol.Lt. Navee, the suspect insisted upon his innocence and claimed the Chinese tourists misunderstood his intention.

Mr. Chai said he was actually trying to assist the victim because she looked like she was about to drown during the diving lesson, according to Pol.Lt. Navee.

The suspect was released after the interrogation because he has a permanent working place and reliable contact details, Pol.Lt. Navee said.

The police investigation is ongoing.

very smart police

I have never seen in my life a "Burmese diving instructor" .

It's not a "diving instructor" as in real diving, but just snorkeling instructor/assistant. All the tour boat companies employs Burmese because of the cheaper labor and much better English than Thais.

Oh! that's alright, for a moment i thought it was a "driving" instructor. But they have never heard of them in Thailand. rolleyes.gif

There are plenty about if you look. I used a very good one in Nathon just before the traffic lights for the immigration and hospital turning. not expensive either and did a good job thumbsup.gif

I did try myself but gave up after a few minutes whistling.gif

Yes, the diving instructor had his intentions misunderstood when he went to adjust the BCD, and instead fondled her breasts. He was simply inaccurate. He did not realize her breasts were on the inside of the vest. His intentions were very noble. He wanted nothing but the best for this innocent young woman. When will someone just admit their error? I could not help it. Did you see how fine this young woman was? I could not keep my hands off her. Sorry.

It was an attempt at humor. Please lighten up.

How well are you 'immersed' in the Samui dive community or do you know anybody at all who works in the Samui dive industry?

If the answer is negative to both questions, you make a nice blanket statement.

There are active Burmese diving staff on Samui boats since a few years.

If what is mentioned really happened, there's no excuse for it but as already mentioned before, how about snorkeling trips/staff instead of diving trips? Wouldn't be the first something's lost in translation.

After the sexual assault and murder of a teenage still fresh in our minds it certainly seems distasteful for the attempts at humor in these responses to a possible sexual assault of another teenage girl.

I was referring to the headline mentioning dive staff, which is not certain at all, it may well have been snorkeling staff.

I was not referring with my 'lost on translation' remark to what you're suggesting. If you take the time to actually read my post correctly, I clearly state that if this happened, I don't condone that at all.
