Noppadol Chanmueang, 33, has been charged with impersonating a security officer, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison.

SONGKHLA — A man has been arrested for dressing up as an army colonel to "please his girlfriend."

Policemen and soldiers arrived at Lee Garden Plaza Hotel in Hat Yai district yesterday after they received calls from hotel staff that a suspicious-looking army officer was hanging out in the lobby on the hotel's 8th floor.

When the soldiers requested the man present his Royal Thai Army ID and identify which regiment he was stationed with, the suspect refused, leading police to arrest him and escort him to a nearby police station.

The man then identified himself as Noppadol Chanmueang, 33, a native of Nakhon Si Thammarat province and confessed that he dressed up as an army colonel “to please his girlfriend.”

Mr. Noppadol told police he graduated from a university in Bangkok in 2003 and is currently unemployed. He said he bought the army uniform from a shop in the 4th Region Army barrack at the price of 2,000 baht.

The suspect added that he changed into the army uniform at a fast food restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel and went to wait for his girlfriend on 8th floor, where he was eventually arrested by the police.

Mr. Noppadol is charged with impersonating a security officer, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison.

It's not uncommon for Thai men to don military or police attire in an attempt to woo women thought to have a fondness for "men in uniforms."

Hmmm, okay but don't try that in the lobby of the Lee Gardens.

Come on...

At least fine him 100B tongue.png

What a waste of energy for the truth will always come out in the end. His next step is to get use to jail and hope they let him out early.

Poor bloke, getting nicked for trying a bit of role play to please his gf. So many Thai men are criticized for their uncaring ways, and when one romeo goes the extra mile to please his other half he ends up on the wrong side of the law.

I hope he only got a slapped wrist and told to save it for the bedroom rather than out in public.

Just as well he didn't dressed up like colonel Klink..... Shultzzzz...

Looking at the picture it seems he was beaten up for sure...lol

Taking off the uniform by two soldiers and buttons are being opened by the MP's too.

Only a year jail term for impersonating ?! Come on any one impersonating is a fraud, what if he was planing to take advantage of that girl in anyway by impersonating? What if he was planing to rape?!

As per news he was trying to impress his girl friend? How come? His girl friend doesn't know what he does for living?

I mean if it was a fantasy they could use any uniform I side bedroom and play any role they want, like army commanding officer and the lady soldier or colonel and the prisoner of war...etc..etc...

Funny....they always come up with trying to impress their gf...

If I was the "Colonel" I would really spice things up and make gf dress up as Yingluck ! cheesy.gif

He shouldn't get jail time-since he's unemployed, give him a job in the army, entry level of course. We know he has aspirations to become a colonel. Won't his girfriend really be impressed then (not).

Oh, that's gonna be expensive

When I first came here I saw a Girl dressed in Whites with like 4 gold bars on her shoulders I thought she was a General turned out she work in Agriculture all the different uniforms here are confusing. As far as the guy to impress gf should of Dressed like a General lol

Not at all. Bravo to the police. This is Southern Thailand and has particularly sensitive security concerns.

I hope they check out his story because he is a NST native and the hotel is a potential target, and intelligence reportsw have suggested something might go down near the end of Rammadan.

Well done BiB.

Hum ... My reading of this is the following :

1/ The girl was not his gf as in regular gf but some lady he chatted on a social network,

2/ He told her to meet him at that hotel, probably pretending that he was staying there but did not go as far as booking a room (probably too costly) which is why he was hanging out in the corridor,

3/ that's what got him busted because some hotel staff realized that his behavior was strange (means he's not a good actor, obviously),

4/ He lured the girl into meeting him and I believe that what excited her was not so much the uniform but the prospect of seducing an army big shot,

5/ He must have done it before, and investing 2000 bahts in this uniform was rather cunning, because I bet the girls never asked him for money.

eWWW. Instant droop!

Sounds like a serious case of the Hairy lasso.

I knew that rice wasn't the only thing rotten in Nakhon Si Thammarat

Poor Man, should have dressed up as a monk

He should have dressed up like this, he would be a chick magnet for sure

If his girlfriend is only interested in colonels she does not deserve him.

Crazy world...

Delusions of grandeur come in many ways... if he'd had a shave he might have gotten way with it. Prat.

I think they're Military Police but they did well to pick him up.

so a guy wanted to impress his gf?

technically it's a crime, but he didn't try to extort money with this uniform or something, just some silly foreplay...

where is your common sense?

get out of trouble soon, man

Just as well he didn't dressed up like colonel Klink..... Shultzzzz...

... or Colonel Sanders.

His gf was the one who called the cops. She caught him cheating, and planned this. He fell for it.

That would attract the chicks, not.
