BANGKOK, 11 July 2014, (NNT) - The Department of Business Development (DBD) has established a hotline for the public to report on any corruption practice among the department’s employees, in accordance with the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO)’s policies in curbing corruption.

According to DBD Director General Phongpan Jiarawiriyapan, she has instructed officials under her supervision to uphold transparency and good governance principles in the department. She promised to instill integrity in her workers in order for the department to regain confidence from both the public and the business sector, and to be a true model for a corruption-free organization.

To fulfill the said goal, her department has established an anti-corruption center at its public service division on the 4th floor of the department headquarters in Nontaburi Province.

The DBD Director General encourages all to report on any suspected corruption practice by calling the 1570 hotline, promising to look into all the complaints and punish to the full extent, without exception, any officials proven guilty.

Will they even have someone who speaks English for those who are not Thais but would like to report incidences of corruption. I tried to call the police for an incident awhile back and used the published number. After 10 calls with no answer, finally someone answered and they had to transfer me to 3 other people before found someone could communicate with and they told me to call yeat another number for the police emergency line, which I did. There was a VM only in Thai apparently asking me to push a number for certain events. I tried pushing 1, then had to call back to dial 2, then same for 3, etc. etc. No human asked any of these number, making me feel very comfortable that the cops are readily available in case of a serious emergency. Basically, felt I was on my own if someone wished to take me life or do other harm. This was in BKK by the way, but had a similar experience while I was in Phuket and tried to contact the Tourist Police late at night without any farang manning the emergency phones.

Wow....everyone is getting on the anti-corruption bandwagon. It's the "in" thing to do right now....but I expect they'll discretely jump off once the wagon slows down.

How about this for an idea:

We were at the DBD on Ratchada Wednesday afternoon because I needed the company certificate and the shareholders list for my WP renewal.

Its just a printout from the system. 6 pages total. It took 1 whole fkn hour to get this! Ridiculous! We watched the papers move from desk to desk while 3 different sour looking employees leafed through the pages and put little check marks and squiggles.

WHY?!!! Just print it out, give us a bill, we pay, we take the papers, DONE!

Start with the gross inefficiency. That will stop a lot of the corruption.

That's not gross inefficiency. It's job security.

... and schools! How much can / do government schools collect from parents?

What about the cash flow at schools?

Some collect "money for the teachers", others "for the foreign teachers". And when it suits some interested party, they can hire illegals as foreign teachers. Why bother with a B-visa, a WP or their own Regional Education Office or the TCT in Bangkok?!?

Education is an area where this country needs reform!

Does anyone know a hotline for Education related complaints? Thailand has the highest or second highest spending on education as % of GDP!
