Lottery price control remains unsuccessful



BANGKOK: -- The 80-baht price control lottery ticket price has not been successful with lottery vendors selling higher than the control price at 90 baht, while some even lower at 70-75 baht on the last minute before the lottery draw yesterday.

Lottery draw Wednesday saw a large number of lottery tickets left unsold by vendors at many sidewalk stalls.

At the front of the Government Lottery Bureau, vendors have to dump prices to lower than the control price at between 70-75 baht.

However the price dumping still did not catch buyers much as the ticket numbers are not attractive enough.

Many vendors complained of loss at yesterday’s last day sale just before the lottery draw started.

They said on the first day when the 80-baht price control went effective, they expected good sales. However it did not live up to what they expected until yesterday they have to dump price down to cut loss.

Lottery vendors at the sidewalk in front of the GLO office on Ratchadamnern Avenue were allowed to stay until yesterday to sell there.

Beginning Thursday, all have to be relocated to new places under the policy of the military junta to return sidewalk to pedestrians, and to beautify the road and sidewalk.
However vendors said they would petition for continual stay at the sidewalk to sell, reasoning they didn’t know where to go.

At most places, 90 baht price tag is seen to be displayed by vendors who said their cost is higher than 80-baht, so they couldn’t sell at the control price.

Meanwhile a Bangkok Poll conducted a survey asking respondents whether the state effort to suppress underground lottery will stop Thai people to bet.

The result showed that more than half of respondents said they did not think so.

36.3% are certain that Thais will continue underground lotteries.

As to a question of whether they agreed to the move to legalise underground lottery, 77.3% agreed, but 15.6% disagreed.

No surprise on this story, as anyone with a brain knows it is simply not possible to 'reform'the country and its attitudes which have been ingrained in society for eternity.

But keep swallowing the Junta BS.

And why not have ticket sales as most other countries do, through recognised sales points, like newsagents, supermarket chains and etc.? Also using recognised machines, which print the numbers of your own choice, and not what is available in front of you from unknown sources.

Rather simple in practice; Rather difficult when cutting out the provincial governors and middle men, etc.

Corruption maintained, and little in the way of proposed army interference in this matter. Not knocking Prayuth, but plans have not gelled in any way, shape or form, as were promised regarding this matter.

Personally, I neither gamble nor buy lottery tickets, so I have no major opinion nor give a toss, but it can be seen quite clearly how it is controlled in the West. I guess it boils down to who and why they want to maintain fixing in Thailand. I believe that's fairly clear, at consumate levels...

many disabled people rely on lottery ticket sales to make a living. The corruption takes place between GLO and the 3 tigers. The GLO should appoint a wholesale entity per province which then channel the ticket directly to the retail vendors. In our area the ticket prices are still between B 100 and B 110.

Letting people choose their own number wouldn't work in Thailand, because they would all choose for 99999999 and if this number wins they would get almost no money (because there are too many winners).

I think #1, self restraint would be required if lottery tickets were to be sold at 7-11.

I think #2 , might be required upon learning you had a big winning number.

Was never going to happen. Lottery ticket scams are hardly the highest priority facing the Junta. This new regime would be well advised to take on the real issues rather than playing to the tune of happiness for the people.

Transparency is the answer.Too many middle men. Too much corruption. Not enough accountability. No one is asking questions. Where are the profits going? Whose pockets are being lined? Even the Junta is unwilling to to tackle this problem. Why?

I was in Nakhon Pathom City main market today (about 50 Km due west of Bangkok) and I do visit this location about every weekend, all the lottery ticket vendors I saw (about a half a dozen) had 90 baht prices posted...before it was 100-110 baht.

Funnily enough i recall that the evil labelled Thaksin wanted to do it properly but was completely stone walled by all the invisibles making huge amounts of money from it. He also planned to open Casino's as well but the do gooders put paid to that.

Or switch to the good old lottery system like in the US where you can choose your own numbers at convenience stores.
