BANGKOK: -- An under-the-influence attempt to evade police ended after a driver struck six cars and somehow landed his Honda City atop another car’s mirror.

The driver and his passenger – names mysteriously withheld – were arrested at 11:30 am this morning by Phra Khanong district police for running a checkpoint at Soi On Nut 17.

The cops reportedly gave chase to the vehicle on a motorbike after it blew through the checkpoint. Then they opted to veer in front of the car and fire two gunshots to threaten the driver.

Just where did they aim before firing their weapons? Fortunately reports indicate no one was harmed by stray bullets.

The terrified Honda City then lost control, hit six other vehicles and landed at an exciting angle atop an otherwise innocent Toyota Vios on Soi Pattanakarn 23. [read more...]

So the Anti-traffic lawbreakers are already on the move against the supposed to crackdown with a bang....

This is gonna be a lot of work for the NCPO...

Wonder who those legs on the left belong to ?

In a photo of the incident, the driver’s limp legs are visible laying in the road, adding to the admittedly comedic scene.

At last - a photo to prove that Honda and Toyota are morphing into Toyondas biggrin.png If you can't beat em copy em...

And as for cops opening fire on a busy street - let's hope they don't get too enthusiastic in their 'clampdowns'.

Far from it! Honda have remained way ahead in tooling than Toyota for BIW pressings for years.

Don't you see the 'pedestrian impact' minimum radii on the Honda (6mm min), as opposed to the sharp edges of the Toyota delivered to the Asian markets?

There is no copying. Toyota simply keep it cheap, and Honda uses and ships parts from the same tools world wide.

As for the OP, "landed his Honda City atop another car’s mirror." ... The car is not on top of the wing-mirror, but clearly sitting on the door sill above the A and B pillars.

Wing mirrors are one of the most difficult parts of a car to design and procure. They have to take pressure from above, below and from every direction, yet have an incredibly small packaging space for a motor and attachments, and assembly components so nothing is externally visible after assembly.

Talk about extreme reporting that a car landed on a wing mirror.. that's really wonderful reporting for attention, but an insult to all car designers.

Looks nothing like "him". Him is still hiding in Singapore, little <deleted>.

Looks like the Toyota faired much better in the collision; therefore, I'm using the Toyota's license plate number when buying my lottery ticket.

Well done the police.

Another a$$hole of the street for a few hours.

They refused to stop at a police checkpoint. They were high on drugs. They were out on bail after a conviction for drug offenses.

Toss the book at 'em.

Preferably the full unabridged versions of the Encyclopedia Britannica!

Now that is what I call a real traffic jam. Brought to mind episode year or so ago when police on opposite sides of road decided to shoot tires out on fleeing vehicle. Cop shoots cop. They watch too many of the wrong movies.

Those over zealous quick to shoot cops could have killed an innocent by standers with their

wild western style shootings, but than again, we know that life is cheap here and the victims

would got paid peanuts in compensations...

The getaway car was on a motorbike? That's how circus clowns make their getaway!

To be honest I was referring to how much the new Toyotas look like Hondas! laugh.png Toyonda!

Funny how the name is withheld. Thai chinese then, and not a westerner, that we know...

Conjecture.

I prefer to read the article, overlook the confusing wording and not assume what I don't know. Often there is more to the story than can be reported.

But then again, I'm not in charge, I wasn't there and don't know anyone who was.
