HUA HIN:-- Bangkok University (BU) and the Hua Hin Municipality have released information about the preparation of local communities for the upcoming ASEAN community era.

Both organisations talked about mobilising Thai youth to become the new global generation with knowledge and resources for the modern labor market to compete with other member countries. The Mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul said that local communities and administrative organisations play a major role in improving the life of Thai youth. Now is the time for people to be fully equipped with foreign language skills, especially English and other ASEAN languages. Administrators should encourage local schools to implement foreign language training without delay. Mr. Nopporn said he was determined to develop the beachfront city so that it becomes the most charming, modernised and lively tourist attraction in Thailand.

To achieve this, improvement in the quality of education to reach international standard and achieve academic excellence is paramount. Teaching staff should be academically knowledgeable and versatile. Cooperation between BU and the Hua Hin Municipality is a good sign for the success of this preparation. The President of BU, Dr. Matthana Santiwat, added that she was pleased the Hin Municipality, private sector operators and local people were considering the future of the ASEAN Economic Community. Many ideas have been put forward about using education to improve, strengthen and mobilise local communities. The main income of Hua Hin is derived from an increasing number of Thai and foreign visitors. Local administration, management and mobilisation are imperative with the proficiency of human resources being a major indicator of success as an Asean nation.

Education is a way to increase the capacity to compete against other countries and to enhance living conditions for Thai people. Human Resource development is a primary mission of BU to enhance the national capacity. The university is formulating 3 policies to this end. The policies aim to promote student creativity, entrepreneurial skills and universality. Successful professional people need academic knowledge, professional ability, creativity and vision to equip business owners to be able to work anytime and anywhere. BU was the first private academic institution in Thailand to provide courses on business administration together with hotel and tourism management. For over 50 years university graduates have established businesses or work successfully as business executives. Many of them are living and working in Hua Hin.

BU is available to help local organisations and communities prepare themselves and receives strong and active support from these graduates. A seminar to encourage Thai youth to be competitive has been held, Chaired by the Project Director of Development and Internationalisation, Dr. Jiraporn Kerdchuchuen. Dr Kerdchuchuen was joined by the Manager of the Institute for Business Development, Assistant Professor Suwinai Torsirisuk, and the Deputy Mayor of Hua Hin Ms. Bussaba Chokesuchart. This seminar provided specific knowledge about business management to entrepreneurs, students, teachers and other local people.
