Thai girlfriend visa to Canada (visitor)

Featured Replies

I'm a Canadian currently living in Thailand. I will be visiting my family in Canada this year at Christmas for 1 month, and I'd love to bring my Thai girlfriend to visit. We have been together around 8 months.

I would like to know her chances of being able to obtain a tourist visa to visit Canada.

 More information:

 - I'd be flying with her on the same return airline ticket. I'm hoping this would make a difference as opposed to trying to bring her over by herself.

- I myself have ties in Thailand, with a 1 year condo lease, ED visa or work permit (getting one of those soon), a purchased motorbike, and a bank account. I'm hoping that this would help show I'll be going back to Thailand.
 - She does not have a lot of money (Around 80,000THB in her bank account). She is a teacher from a small village in Mae Hong Son. I would be financially supporting her on her visit to Canada, and she'd stay at my family's house.
- I'd be buying the return airline tickets before applying for the visa.
- She has strong relationship with her family in Mae Hong Son, and she doesn't want to move to Canada (not sure how to prove this. Is there a document she can provide related to this?)

I would like to know the likelihood that she would be approved for a visitor's visa before I purchase the very expensive plane tickets.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.

She needs to convince the immigration officer that she will return to Thailand after the trip. So the onus is on her to show that there is sufficent ties for her to return.

I would do an invitation letter from you detailing reason for the trip as well as full itinerary. Also a brief summary of your relationship and how you will cover all expenses including getting medical insurance.

An employment letter from her school stating she is working and will continue working there.

Any documents showing her assets; land, car, bike, house, money etc.

The 1st time I brought my GF (now wife) to visit Canada, that's all I showed and we got it without even having to do an interview. But we have heard stories, of interrogation like interviews etc.

Good Luck.

I wouldn't buy the airline tickets till the visa was in her passport, just in case.
