Bryde's whale carcass washed up on Hua-Hin Beach

 

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 6 August 2014 (NNT) - A large whale carcass has been found on the famous Hua-Hin Beach of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Local fisherman have discovered the carcass of a Bryde’s Whale measuring four meters long and weighing more than 300 kilograms on the beach as they were setting sail to catch some squid. The group immediately notified the Hua Hin Municipality about the incident.

Authorities from the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center in the Lower Gulf of Thailand are now working to determine the exact cause of death.

Necropsy tests would be conducted to see whether the whale has sustained any injuries, especially in the abdominal cavity.

Initial investigations confirm that parts of the whale’s skin were starting to peel off, indicating that the carcass was just starting to rot. Authorities have concluded that the whale had been dead for around 3-4 days.

Another large Bryde’s whale was also found dead on a coastal mangrove forest in Samut Prakan province on June 29th. Locals and tourists have felt sorry for the loss of the Bryde’s whale, many of which once roamed the tropical waters in the area.

HUA HIN: -- A large Bryde’s whale carcass was found on the Hua Hin beach of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The carcass of four metre-long and 300-kilo whale was found by local fisherman as they were setting sail to catch some squid.

They immediately notified the Hua Hin municipal officials about the incident.

Authorities said that the whale might have been dead for around 3-4 days. Parts of the whale’s skin were starting to peel off, indicating that the carcass was just starting to rot.

It was the second whale since June to have been found dead. On June 29, a large Bryde’s whale was also found dead on a coastal mangrove forest in Samut Prakan province.

Now authorities from the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center in the Lower Gulf of Thailand are working to determine the exact cause of death.

Depends on whether theres a half smoked cigarette lying somewhere on that beach.

From the photo, it must be to Khao Tao, because I seem to recognize the island singh toh but confirmed. 

"A large whale carcass has been found" to be honest that is a young and relatively small whale if it is a Bryde's whale as they can grow up to 18 meters. Unfortunately they get killed by illegal dragnets, still widely used by local fishermen 

We can expect many more  whales wash up as Fukushima works 24/7 , 

It is a baby at 4 meters and 300 Kg  In tropical waters mature adults would be around 10 meters plus and weigh several tons.

If that really is a Bryde's whale then it is at average birth size, could of been a still-born.
