Prayuth to NLA: Put the phones away and get to work
By Coconuts Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- When Thailand's new, unelected legislative body meets for the first time tomorrow, its members have a choice: They can run the country or run for cookies.

Junta chief Gen. Prayuth Chanocha has admonished the appointed members of the National Legislative Assembly not to play with their phones during sessions.

"He stressed military NLA members must not take naps, play on the Line [mobile phone] application or play with other social network apps during NLA meetings," Third Army Chief and assembly member Lt. Gen. Preecha Chanocha was quoted in the Bangkok Post.

The first orders of business for the 200-member body, most of which are military with women only accounting for 1-in-20, will be appointing a prime minister, which is expected to be Prayuth. Next they will select people they want to serve on a "National Reform Council."

According to the Bangkok Post, Prayuth is considered a shoe-in.

Come on kids... try again... the classroom is no place for phones, when you're still trying to learn.

Isn't it really sad when the leader of the staff of a country has to tell his direct subordinates to, indirectly, not play games or play facebook, don't play Candy Crush or Skype maties, whilst they are supposed to be running the country.

Thainess.... will never cease, and these are the examples children learn from.

Apart from sleeping and phone time I suppose all members of the new assembly will religiously report for parliamentary duty so no need for members to rush around voting for absentees ?

General Prayuth O-cha knows his people.

Go get 'em Tiger O-cha!

The kids will all be suffering withdrawal symptons in a few days.....

I mean really....can anyone imagine what happens when Line, Skype and other apps are not to be used in parliament....it's an outrage!!

But he is right.
The whole world has ground to a halt while people use their 'devices'
It is almost impossible to go out and have a meal. Because you are on your own. Your partner/date wife eats with one hand uses the phone with the other. Conversation/Communication is out of the question. If I want to talk to my wife I have to SMS her, in the bathroom

Pathetic.

I agree, the world has gone mad

my partner, never ever uses her phne, when we are out, she would not be my partner if this happened. I hate the use of phones when in company, very rude indeed

And you think they don't do it in your country, think again.

I think it is good that someone is showing some leadership and reminding people who are in the public service (so to speak) are not taking the piss. The PTP have already taken the piss for far too long, I'd expect that he will be attempting to hold everyone to a much higher standard than the depths the bar has currently sunk too.

Sorry but it has to be one or the other. If they don't send Hello Kitty pics to each other on Line/Whatsapp. they will simply fall asleep.

I'm sure they will be allowed to play with them as much as they like when he is ready to ask questions that start "Raise your hands all those that oppose me........<insert suggestions here>".

That this even has to be addressed among "professionals".

Wonder who will break and have charges laid against someone or other for sedition or some toss pot thing, I miss those PTP days NKK.

omg. Now we understand why the Junta banned Tropico 5.

Not really. A bit like Steven Gerrard last season telling his teammates to play hard, play fair and no biting. They all have to be reminded. And the new captain (general) means business, he has a duty to his boss, so no-one wants to let the side down.

A whole new ball game compared to the last rabble. Time will tell.

It always baffles me when some quote instances from other countries as some sort of defense. wacko.png

They are told not to act like the former parliament.

So it's down to prolonged toilet breaks then, aye? thumbsup.gif

I think there'll be a certain category of young women who will be mighty miffed if they get stopped by the police and try to ring "daddy" for help, and he won't be able to answer because he's ... well, debating inheritance tax rights. :)

20-1 is female is more of a worry than the phone.

Telecom operators forecast a drop in revenues. laugh.png

So no texting while at state funerals either then?
