The race for the Gillette Best Young Player Award took another twist this evening as the current leader’s dreams of reaching the FIFA World Cup™ Final evaporated thanks to Zinedine Zidane's match-winning penalty....

Sadly for them, after Germany's defeat last night and Portugal’s tonight, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lukas Podolski – the only two remaining Gillette Best Young Player candidates – will now need to make do with battling for bronze in the match for third place.

With Ronaldo currently out in front with 27 per cent of the votes and Podolski three places back on seven per cent, a starring role against the hosts in Stuttgart on 8 July could be decisive for Portugal's wunderkid, while his young German rival will be hoping that a goal or two might see the pendulum swing back in his direction.
