Some of those pubs are good for food. For example 'The Londoner' did an excellent Sunday buffet.

I hope that if / when it reopens they continue the buffet as I'll definitely go whenever I'm in Bangkok.

The Londoner moving to a more residential area is hopefully the start of more suburban farang style bars appearing....certainly suits me more than having to slog to Sukhumvit to sit at the bar and be ignored.....

Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt The Londoner moving to Pattanakarn soi 30/32?

Hardly the easiest place to get to.

Plenty of bars around the area where you wont be ignored, beats me why anyone would want to head for the faranag enclave of Suk.

The back of Seacon Square, Kings Park Avenue, Bang Kapi, Lat Prao, Sri Nakarin just for starters.

You wont hear phrases such as, hamsum man, cheap charlie, up to you, you wont be pestered for lady drinks or called kee niaw because you give a 100 baht tip, you are more likely to be given a wai, a smile and a kop khun ka.

Suk Rd sorry nothing there for me.

We dont ignore you mate, its just we dont understand the accent LOL.

I do 40 THB large Leos in CHiang Mai with live music..........all fun, mostly Thai. Haven't seen a fight in there in the 8 years I've been drinking there. Street food is welcome. If anyone knows anyplace like that with cheap cold beer, sexy thai girls (working or not), and no <deleted> who still want to talk about Dick Cheney to every American they meet; please let me know.

If you are in Bkk, try, Fattys Bar and Diner in Bkk, just down the road from the cess pit that is SC.

Be Aware, if your music tastes are more Jim Reeves than Nirvana, this aint the place for you.

If you appreciate American "dive" food, no rip off expensive drinks and Americana food such as Buffalo Wings, along with a frat party type atmosphere, and decent music, this might be the place for you.

Sex pats wearing wife beaters, be advised, this aint for you.

I had to 'google' Jim Reeves, lol. Never heard of Fatty's before but will stop by next time I'm in Bangkok. Thanks.

I appreciate the recs. That's a great location, as it is strollable from some nice lower cost hotels off the MRT. I've picked up enough dried cow-pies over the years to not get real excited about 180 thb hamburgers. I don't do mixed drinks, either, which appear to be about 100 thb...which may be a good deal, depending on the pour. How much for a small Leo or Heineken? My last few trips, I did check out Suk 22 or 24...about 300m off Suk, near Subway, and a bunch of massage...found a place, run by a Thai lady (very nice) who has bars on both sides of the street. She gets 60 for a small Heinekin....there are barfines...but it's a decent place....not real impressed with the clientele, as I've seen people sit there and read paperback books....free country, but if I'm in a bar, I like to meet some people. Do you know which place I am talking about? But, anyhoo, Fatty's beer prices seem a little close to the vest....looked like a younger crowd, which is fine, but a lot of them think they are invincible and will pay stupid prices for beers, just to be seen. Didn't see any ladies in the photos, but they are never far in that whole area. Thanks again!

Nice and easy for some of us....staggering distance you might say.......tongue.png

Oh and you misunderstand....I like to sit and drink on my own and not be disturbed at all.....and UK style pubs are perfect for that.

The bars you are talking about I always get someone who wants to talk to me...which is fine cos when I go there I do it to be sociable.

Sukhumvit I go to enjoy the insanity of the whole place.....craziness around every corner.

Got to love it....all of it!

https://www.facebook.com/daylichiangmai?fref=ts Not familiar with drunken flower....I'll do a search. Also, Dayli does promos on Carlsberg....4 for 270 late, but I don't know if they are less before 8 like the Leos and Singhas. It's soi 11 Nimman....much closer to Srijamkala, which everyone has the hardest time pronouncing and spelling...so we just say Nimman Soi 11. Just east of Grace Dental Clinic....nothing like 4 or 5 cold ones after a root canal.

Personally I prefer 4 or 5 cold ones and a cigarette after a root.

you can smoke at the Dayli, also. Marlboros are 92 THB per pack.....I think that is on pair with 7-11, not a cig smoker; I just get my dividends checks every three months from Altria.....seem more solid than Uncle Sam, himself.
