motorcycle taxis and regulations (insurance etc)

Featured Replies

I read somewhere the other day that motorbike taxi drivers had to wear the appropriate vest (from their rank)

have the correct driving licence, own the motorbike and have Yellow plates.

If any of these conditions are not met they are illegal and are not covered by insurance if they have an accident.

Which means their passenger has no cover either.

Does anybody have more infomation on this.

I wasnt sure wether to place this under General or Travel. But I dont think that Bikes in Thailand is the right place for it.

I'm sure that if you're worried about if the insurance will cover you in an accident, you're better off not considering using motocy taxis anyway, regardless of the colour of the plate or category of the driver's licence.

I didnt say I was worried (I have enough accident and medical cover insuarance to cover almost any possibility). I just wanted to bring this to the attention of others and to ask for more inforamation

if any body has any. I dont use motorbike taxis very often as I have my own but I do if I go out drinking.

just get yourself an accident insurance for cheap so you never need to worry or trust about other's insurances.

Insurance here is not that expensive.
