Hi Im in abit of a predicament . I sent some excess baggage back to Oz from Chiang Mai about 6 weeks ago . I was told it would take about 45 days before arrival here so that was OK as I returned to Adelaide about that time . When I went to pick up Parcel from local OZ P.O. they told me the parcel had been returned to sender [ ME BUT IM HERE ] as they only keep mail for 10 days , I went down 4 days late [ didnt know of this rule ] ... So it gets returned to Chiang Mai , I put my hotel address on parcel . Ive informed the hotel but on reading some posts on here Im now concerned that anything will happen .

ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Thanks for any help .

Sounds like you are in a bit of a jam. Was it sent registered? If so - and I presume it was or it would not be returned to Thailand, it will be returned to the hotel. I would call the hotel, and offer them some money for their time in addition to the cost of return postage and have them send it back [again] to Oz. Wire the funds over to them and I'm sure someone at the hotel will take care of it for you. Be sure it is sent registered and ask for the tracking number. Good luck.

I would think if you were staying at a decent Hotel, they'd help you out.

You might also contact the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) SYDNEY Office, I'm sure they would be happy to assist. If i was still running the TAT Office in Perth, I'd help out but that office has been closed for many years, so give SYDNEY a try. The Hon. Thai Consul in Adelaide used to be Jay Walton but I think she is living in Bangkok these days. I'm living in Chiang Mai but don't have any influence over the local office.

What would have happened if, as the return address, you had used another Australian address--or even the same P O address--rather than the Chiang Mai hotel address? The postal workers might have scratched their heads a bit, but it would have been forwarded to another location in Australia, I'm sure.

In the past, I've done something similar to what I suggest above, thinking that I would not want the letter to be returned to a place that would not know what to do with it, should it become undeliverable due to some kind of damage or the like occurring along the way.

I can't help you , but that is typical of Australian Post. Things like this happen to me all the time when i buy online and get it sent to my Oz address. .The people who are working for Aussie Post do their best but if wasn't so serious for you it would be funny.

Eh G'day ... Thanks for all the advise .

I found some forms available at ; thailandpost.com/images/contact_request_jpg Download form .

and email ; [email protected]

Hopefully the parcel will be sent to hotel , Ive contacted them and they are very helpful , so Hopefully that will be the easy way out ...

Australia post has a 10 day limit on pick up [ which I didnt know about ] and when I told them it had been about 14 days they told me it was already shipped to Thailand , they also will not be deivering mail to the door soon , just P.O. mail boxes ....saves em money but my local Exchange is 3 k's away and no where near a bus service . Im OK but the elderly ????

LOW EXPECTATIONS - GREAT SERENITY .

Thanks again John
