So, In a potential bit of mess..not sure yet but better cover bases.

My wife just submitted her and my sons visa applications to come visit. She has a Tourist/Visit Family visa application, he has the same but "under 18"

The under 18 visa was the only option for him, it asked all the right questions, parents, traveling guardian etc. It seemed correct.

So this morning they went to the office - put the documents in, only to be told he needs a "special child visa" https://www.gov.uk/child-visit-visa/overview

They accepted the application anyways, but i'm in ass covering mode - the wife was offered a 3 day "fast track" clearing for the visa at a cost of 5000THB each (take note people who are reading the post earlier in this forum about delayed visa applications).

I went to the child visa site, checked all the documentation and required stuff, and clicked "apply online" as i want to get it filled in "just in case".

It took me to the usual login (where i have previous visa applications listed) and i know for certain if i start another application for him, it won't list "special child visa"...

I don't think there will be any problem in the fact that there is a choice of categories. Normally, the special child visitor category would be used by a child applicant traveling alone to the UK. And, after all, it's not as if you are submitting a fraudulent application or trying to conceal something from the ECO. The application was accepted, and the circumstances remain the same, whatever category was applied for. If the ECO has a problem he would probably ask for a new form as it would amount to a"simple error", that is all, but I really don't think it will come to that.
