Dr Bunnakit (who is on the ThaiVisa recommended list) is not aparently working at CNX Ram.

Current list is as follows:

PROF. VORVAT CHOOMSAI
SUPON SRIPLAKIJ
BANNAKIJ LOJANAPIWAT
PHITSANU MAHAWONG

Has any member consulted any one of these doctors, and would recommend?

Grateful for any feedback!

Dr. Bannakit was away for 3-4 weeks. I think he just returned last week. You can find him at Sriphat Thursday evenings or at his clinic on Kaeo Narawat - I believe M, W, F evenings and on the weekend too, possibly. His number at the clinic is 053-242173.

He operated on me to remove a kidney stone and everything was fine, he even found it amusing when he was removing the stent under a local !

From my personal experience Dr. Bunnakit is a "cutter", not a "treater".

Had some cutting done by him and he did a fine job - good for kidney stones etc. with no questions IMHO.

Treatment for postrate, infections etc is most definitely not his forte - also from my personal experience.

Dr Bunnakij has local surgery on keow narrawat road 200 m East of bridge and has Sunday time 10 - 11.30 as well

I've just had kidney surgery associated with stones follow up soon with shock wave treatment to break up stones.

Also specialist for erectile dysfunction

Highly recommended in CM

Ps had spinal injection, anesthetist very helpful. awake for op, dr bunnakij talked me through camera view on tv and X-ray pics

No feeling in legs for 2 hours then movement started and some pain but a lot less than when had laser tripsy in Perth .

I've had many years kidney stones and just found out about citrates and oxalate excretion

Was told about lime and lemon juice to be a benafit but did not do follow up study.

Strange, had an Aunty in Chiang Rai who after first stone in Thailand, took my bottle of coke away and made me drink my whiskey with soda and lime! I now realise Soft drinks very bad and lime is very good for me" thanks Aunty

Google kidney stone treatment citrate

Dr B removed a Kidney Stone size of a small planet from my urine track a few years ago.

I now drink lots liquid, citrus recommended, during our Hot season, like now.

Dr Morgan told me that I have to much Uric acid in my urine and that if this did not show as Gout, which I have never suffered with, then it is removed by the kidneys as Kidney Stones.

She placed me on Puride and along with my fluids I have never had any suggestion of a blockage by Kidney Stones.

Kidney stone suffers will know it is a very painful problem.

Can anyone recommend a urologist who is a prostrate treater, doesn't have to be in CM, but please based on personal experience, thanks.

Dr. Bunnakit is a 'prostate treater' he doesn't push everyone for surgery I know this from experience.

Just tell him you want the conservative approach before anything radical, it won't be a problem.

Dr Phitsanu has agreed to a watch and wait approach to a large prostate with a modestly high PSA.

Not sure if it would have been that way if I hadn't made my feelings (well, calculations re relationship between prostate size and PSA) known......but he seems a decent chap, about the right age not too old not too young, and goes to China to consult there.

Some great info here. Does anyone have personal experience of using medication for BPH (to reduce the size). If so which med did they use? Was size reduction confirmed (by DRE, ultrasound, or any other method). Was the PSA level also affected? Thanks

Dr. Bannakit is one of my favorite doctors. I can't remember when I first saw him, but I think about 18 months ago and have been seeing him every 3 months since. He has never recommended surgery to me. He did insist upon a biopsy at first which was no big deal. I drove myself home within 4 hours of the procedure with no pain whatsoever. I'm glad I had it done, so I know that I don't have cancer. He is very careful and checks blood and does an exam regularly. He prescribed medication that has helped so much. When I saw him last week he was so pleased with my progress that he said I only needed to come twice a year now and told me that I have an extremely low chance of getting cancer. Not only is he very confident but he's a very nice and personable guy and I highly recommend him.

The medicine to actually reduce the size of the prostate is supposed to be very effective but is known to have some very unpleasant side-effects, including in some cases, impotence. The 'beta-blockers' are very helpful with no side effects - at least in my case, but don't reduce the size.

Thanks Electrified.

Re biopsies, my understanding is that….

a prostate biopsy that shows no cancer just proves that there’s no cancer in the sample, it doesn’t mean there’s no cancer in the prostate; these false negatives are common and the patient is recommended to come back in nn months time for another biopsy, and again, and again.

Also there are risks with biopsies, despite what medical professionals on this forum may have said - sepsis is one (which is more or less likely depending on the point of entry); and where cancer is present there is a risk that biopsies accelerate its spread. I haven’t seen any quantification of this risk, but it’s sufficient for urologists in the UK to question the automatic use of biopsies (which is still the official approach in Thailand) and to reduce their use.

Let me pass on what I thought was some good information that was given to be by a female doctor some years back. When looking for a urologist she suggested that one look for a woman doctor that liked to play piano. Make your own interpretation .

Guys I suffer from BHP, enlarged Prostate, have been on Alpha blockers. Very unpleasant side effects.

I have found very effective relief from using a suppliment manufactured by Now products called Prostate Support.

Available from I herb.

Awesome mail order company on line.

Just google.

Thoroughly recommend.

Thanks for the tip. Did the supplement have any effect on PSA? Thanks.

I sincerely doubt it. There are hundreds of these supplements/formulas out there. The main ingredient is always Saw Palmetto (there are a few names for this same plant). There have been numerous studies done on this supplement in a number of different countries over the years and all conclude that it does nothing more than placebo. I personally have experimented and have taken many, many times the recommended dosage of Saw Palmetto and it did absolutely nothing. Zinc, pumpkin seed oil, Lycopene, etc. are all supposed to be good for your prostate but do NOT reverse the effects of BPH or lower PSA numbers. A high PSA also does not mean you will get cancer.

Beta-blockers work very well. The one I take is time-released over 24 hours. I have absolutely no symptoms anymore. Haven't gotten up at night to relieve myself in almost a year now. Never had a single negative side-effect. But the first two weeks on the medicine, most people feel a little light-headed; including myself. After that, no side effects.

Last PSA was 0.9. due for re check next week will update.

Now Blood pressure before blockers was 135/70. When taking these it dropped to 109/60.

Urologist made smart remark "you wife will like these"!

Meaning I find out, unable to climax!!!

Very emotive subject.

Big pharma make serious money out of drugs.

By the way, RAM CNX charged six times the local pharmacy price for the same drug!

Each to their own experience.

Just saying.

Cheers.

Yeah, but no one who lives here, actually buys their drugs from RAM wink.png

I can understand that a lot of people would not want to post personal medical history on this forum. Personally I'm asking about the overall effect rather than the absolute numbers. I have found that a vegan diet with an hour of aerobic exercise daily has coincided with a lowering of my PSA by 30% (with out any meds or supplements) over 2 months. I need to repeat to be more confident that there's a causal relationship.

It is quite normal for PSA to slowly rise with age, as the prostate becomes larger in size in some people.

Putting out more PSA.

The watch point is to be alert for a spike or doubling of PSA .

This could indicate can infection of the gland to cancer.

PSA monitoring for guys 50 years plus, I feel is so important.

Certainly healthy diet and the appropriate supplements help.

Certainly some great information available on the internet.

That the for posting.

The stressful part is knowing which path to go down, and having a health professional to have confidence in and to trust.

Everyone is obviously pushing their own barrow so to speak!
