PHUKET: -- An illegal wall next to Bang Tao Beach is being demolished after an inspection visit last Thursday (September 4) by Vice-Governor Somkiet Sangkhaosutthirak and Col Somchai Ponathong of the 41st Military Circle.

The visit followed a complaint by the owner of a plot of land close to southern end of the beach, not far from the klong that was the subject of complaints about pollution earlier this year.

Kawin Varanusupakul, representative of the land owner, told The Phuket News, “We live in Bangkok and we come to Phuket once a year to check our land.

“The land was upgraded from NorSor3Gor to Chanote in 1994, and in the Chanote paper it states that the north end of the land abuts the sea,” he added.

“In 2012, we discovered that a wall had been built, blocking off our land from the sea. We did not understand how someone could be allowed to build it,” he explained.

A Land Office official explained that wave action had actually created a quarter-rai of new land between Mr Kawin’s land and the beach.

“The Land Office gave a villager the right to use the new land for fishing. But he was not allowed to build anything on the land,” the official said.

OrBorTor Cherng Talay Chief Executive Ma-Ann Samran confirmed that no building permit had been issued for the wall.

V/Gov Somkiet ordered the wall to be removed within seven days – by September 10.

Today an OrBorTor engineer confirmed today (September 8) that demolition of the wall was in progress and Mr Kawin and his family will soon have their view again.

That's just magic. A quarter rai mysteriously turns up, and it's not sand, it's actual land! Amazing that down in Patong at Prab's hotel, the same wave action actually took away a chunk of land, thus putting his hotel right on the sand, whereas before it was legally set back (sure it wasn't!).

.

I live around the corner from this location, over the past ten years the the ocean has been eating into the land, I think you may find a retaining wall on the west side of the new mysterious land plot, action a plenty in Phuket and its all for the best.

I think you may find a more complete story in this line below.

"The land was upgraded from NorSor3Gor to Chanote in 1994, and in the Chanote paper it states that the north end of the land abuts the sea"

One has to ask how the land was upgraded to Chanote?

Thats the real question.

More skulduggery in this place that the OP article covers.
