HUA HIN:-- A new market for local Thai fruit is now open in central Hua Hin to promote the product to visitors and encourage them to visit the orchards in the area of the Pa La-U Waterfall.

The Governor of Prachuab Khirikhan Mr. Weera Sriwattanatrakul, the Prachuab Khirikhan Provincial Office and the Huay Sat Yai Sub-District Administration Office have launched the market on the ground floor of Hua Hin Market Village. The market features many Thai fruit, including rambutan, Karen banana, longan and limes. The fruit is grown by farmers living in the area of the Pa La-U Waterfall Hua Hin. The area has been under His Majesty the King’s royal initiative for over 30 years with large orchards and dairy farms managed by local villagers.

The most popular fruit of the orchards is durian because it smells good and does not taste too sweet. The demand for durian from Pa La-U is very high. Sold at the orchards or the Huay Sat Yai Sub-District Administration Office the price is low, however the fruit is also now sold at the new fruit market at reasonable prices. Mr. Weera added that orchard owners of 150 households in Pa La-U, Ban Beung Nakhon, Khao Jao and Ban Pa Deng communities regularly plant durian all year round. The durian undergoes quality control by agricultural specialists and land developers. Durian from these four communities has a sticker with the name of the orchard where it is grown and the date when it is collected.
The four communities at Pa La-U are supported by public administrators to serve as an eco-tourism site in the rainy and the cold seasons. Climatic conditions resemble northern Thailand. It is recommendable to all visitors to Hua Hin that they pay a visit to Pa La-U and experience the beautiful nature and local lifestyle there.
