I know there have been a couple of threads on broadband but things can often change rapidly and it seems in Thailand its often for the worse.

I figure the first step in getting a semi reliable broadband connection is to find somewhere to live thats close to a telephone exchange. A lot of peoples problems seem to be 'local loop' issues. I'd certainly like to hear from people who's connection is reliable (even if they get poor performance peak times) with where they are located? Bet its Phuket town or Patong. Better still anyone know where the main exchanges are on the island?

Any views on CAT ToT TT&T?? Who has the best quality of service from the point of view of phone lines (not broadband). Without a good phone line you won't get good broadband so thats step one :o

Anyone use DTAC GPRS (or any other I guess) how reliable is that on the island. (i guess the answer won't be what I want to hear but still will ask).

Thanks.

I installed an adsl connection on my line in Kathu last month(tt&t).It is the cheapest,at 600bt a month, and I am favourably impressed.Download speeds during the day(checked by this website ) at up to 56kbs and slows down in the evening to12-15kbs,i rate it quite high as it is 10 times as fast as using the normal tt&t internet service.Seems to be reliable, used to drop out with the free modem they supplied but is great now I upgraded to a d-link wireless router.
