BANGKOK, Sept 15 -- Several ministers in the Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha administration started their work today after taking their oath to His Majesty the King and attending an informal cabinet meeting earlier this month.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan along with Deputy Defence Minister Gen Udomdej Sitabutr first paid their respects to the shrine at the ministry and witnessed a military parade.

After a briefing on the ministry’s policy they were to meet on security later in the day.

Justice Minister Gen Paiboon Khumchaya wasted no time as he chaired a drug suppression meeting with senior officials from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries and from three dialogue partners of the group.

Culture Minister Veera Rojpojanarat walked into his ministry's compound at the auspicious time at 9.09am and planned to move on a policy to offer tax incentives to those donating money supporting the ministry’s affairs.

He planned to reduce tax by as much as double of the amount of money donated to the ministry.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Petipong Pungbun Na Ayudhya, meanwhile, presented his policy to senior ministry officials and told them to urgently resolve farmers problems.

The issues are declining rubber prices, developing shrimp exports, illegal fishing, drought and assisting cooperative stores which are having difficulties.

Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda and his deputy Suthi Makboon presented policies to provincial governors countrywide via a video conference, asking them to work honestly to benefit the people. (MCOT online news)

"He planned to reduce tax by as much as double of the amount of money donated to the ministry."

Good luck with that one, as 70% of Thais are self employed and don't pay tax.

Edit: All these sudden proposals? I'd love to see the actual contents and plans contained within these proposals, or whether they are just proposed ideas without any content.

Me thinks the latter, unless they become transparent.

Can't fault them for their sense of humour. Today of all days - the International Day of Democracy

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Democracy is annually held on September 15 to raise public awareness about democracy. Various activities and events are held around the world to promote democracy on this date.

New bank accounts opened, new cars purchased, new phones, ipads and mia nois. Business as usual, y'all! w00t.gif

Oh yeah, please give us the details, especially the juicy details.

How about some Ministers with their new mia nois, assuming you're right that is.

Oh it's only a day where nations of the World promote and consolidate democracy, rubl, not something you're bothered about apparently. Worth a joke though eh?

I already notice the difference rolleyes.gif

Yes,...a pro-Bangkok Elite crony Ministership is much different than a populistly elected one.

“Before martial law was declared, Gen Prayuth told me ‘Khun Suthep and your masses of PDRC supporters are too exhausted. It’s now the duty of the army to take over the task’, ” Mr Suthep said.

Good joke. But to get the joke, which will be difficult for the media-ted,...one must be aware that the top agenda of the new crony Minister's, is to make Populist Elections (aka, anti-Bangkok Elite) illegal, and thus "democracy" a sham. But hey,...if they can figure out how to make the Northern Thai (buffalo) people happy without real democracy, perhaps Conservatives could do it all over.

Just hope their mum’s packed'em all a good lunch and they learn to play with everyone at the breaks.whistling.gif

The job these guys had before was to shoot people; now they are diplomats? It’s one thing to say what you will do so everyone will like you; they need to actually do what they say. Otherwise it is just changing the deck chairs?

Yes, Suthep said and all believe him of course, just like all believe that Democrat MP who was asked money by some MiB.

Anyway, I guess I'll get no answer if I ask you to explain the "pro Bangkok elite" and the "crony", not even if I ask very nicely with lots of "pretty please with sugar".

BTW "pro-Bangkok elite" somehow suggest there is also a different type of elite. Maybe the "non-elected criminal fugitive" type ?

Got to be proud of the 13 military ministers taking a broad portfolio from commerce, education to environment and justice. Never knew military men are also good at governing. Multi tasking at its best. Forget about the best qualified man and meritocracy.

Well, since PM Prayuth didn't want any politicians he didn't have much choice, now did he.

I mean Ms. Yingluck had so many knowledgeble, capable and full potential people to choose from, that she felt a need to reshuffle her cabinet five times or so. Nothing to do with any of the outshuffled not performing of course.

Minor correction if I may.

These Ministers are not diplomats or even supposed to be. They're also not politicians neither supposed to be. They're there to coordinate the activities to keep the country running and get input from NLA members and NCPO to do so. The one thing missing might be the occasional skype-in from concerned citizens and golf caddies.

Goh, crony Ministers, a newbie with a new term to defame the current Thai cabinet. Plus a somewhat biased view of what the Cabinet will do.

I guess the NRC would real problems if some of the vocal posters here would be able to provide input in possible reforms. This type of provocation will not help at all and might even make it necessary for the NRC to ask for more time to formulate reforms acceptable to most Thai. Unfortunately that would mean someone has to ask PM Prayuth to stay on a wee bit longer instead of retiring. Of course if it's good for the Nation and lots of Thai agree he will have no problem sacrificing his time.

BTW why do you refer to the Northern Thai people as buffaloes? That's impolite you know.

She was constantly being criticised on this this forum for cabinet reshuffles and here you are doing the same (as far as I can tell, from your usual equivocational "style"). However, it was obviously a sensible approach and has found favour elsewhere

"Any Cabinet member who does not work well will be replaced. There is no limit in the number of Cabinet reshuffle. Bad people will have to go and whoever is corrupt will be sent to jail. So please do not worry," General Prayuth said.

Well, let's just say that the more Ms. Yingluck stressed her personal selection criteria (knowledgable, capable, potential, suitability) followed by yet another reshuffle, the more it would seem she either didn't really have a clue or she had too many who fitted the profile and therefore she had to reshuffle to give them all a chance at the (cabinet) table.

I simply replied to Eric's remarks on 'forget about the best man and meritocracy'. PM Prayuth has excluded from his choices ALL politicians thereby accepting that he doesn't have all those wonderful people Ms. Yingluck could choose from. I assume that's why he felt the need to warn his selection in advance, something Ms. Yingluck obviously didn't need to do.
