The moderators and admin from thaivisa.com use this system to warn members and keep notes. There are two ways of setting up the Warning Level system, by percentage or by points. It is for internal use and not viewable to members.

Huski, do you not think it may be more useful if members could view their own warning levels? What's the advantages and disadvantages for that?

I think its a good way of preventing further posts that might bring about more warnings. I think its worth seeing your own warning levels go up, and its also an encouragement to see them go down after a period of time which is whats meant to happen.

I've had three warnings, the first from 2004, but do they all still stand? Who knows, not me. I'm clueless to my own level and how close I am to banishment as many others here are also. I don't think thats a pleasant situation for members to be in.

I think also some of the cases of people that have complained of 'instant bans' may have come about because they failed to receive any notification of their warning level and were genuinely surprised and annoyed when they suddenly dissapear from this site on a minor discretion. The talk of instant bans on TV spreads around the network of websites and rumours start. IMHO a lot of that could be stopped if their was more clarity to the situation. A clarity that a fiddle with the board software could provide.

If there's a breakdown in communication and notifications are not received by pm and email then its a good way for users to be sure of their own level. Do I receive a warning for this post? I dont know. Does Insight receive one for his earlier post (I gathered my one yesterday for precisely the same thing), he doesn't know. No one knows, and thats a problem.

That lack of knowledge has created an enviroment of fear on this weboard. I chat with members all the time on msn, and many have problems with small things like this. But they wouldn't dare speak up on this thread about it, because who knows what'll happen to them.

Oner person told me yesterday "I see your stirring some sh1t in Bedlam, be careful what you say on there, you'll be banned."

They fear the instant bans, they fear not knowing how close they are to the mark, and they fear losing membership to a great board, albeit one that shouldn't be above of making some slight changes to improve itself and keep its top slot of number one Thailand forum.

You know, just as a quick added noted. My mouse marker just hovered over the 'add reply' button but I thought, will I get trouble for this posting? That shouldn't be the case because as I said yesterday in my topic, criticism and useful feedback from members is an excellent source of information for the admin of this website and bedlams the perfect place to get it.

Some people complain to be <deleted> and air personal grieviences with mods and some people do it in a hope to improve service on a board they fully enjoy and take part in everyday. I would say most of us are the latter. :o

I've just tested the warning system (issued myself a warning) - and the Pm was recieved immediately.

There is no problems in the Warning system.

And this is a perfect example of why warning levels should be visible. I now have a personal situation/problem with a moderator as he does with me because he thinks I'm lying about not receiving my warning pms to cause trouble and I'm still convinced that I have received no warnings as I thought I was on level 0. I expect we will never know and that confusion has now caused a problem between a poster and a mod. I think we both got pissed off arguing about it, when there should have been nothing to argue about.

We would not have this problem at all if the warning level was visible. There would be no arguments about receiving a pm or not receiving a pm, I could check my control panel/profile and I would be able to see my warning level clearly.

Careful there Wolfie, you might end up banning yourself :o

I'm not interested in knowing what my warning level is but I would like to know how many gold stars I have. :o

Just a little off topic, but I received this pm recently from the moog.

I liked Thaivisa, and enjoyed writing there. If they took off the IP block from my HK address i'd be happy to be able to access it again.

Was he that much of a problem really? The guys would love to come back and write and argue on this site. It's the little sparks of life from posters like him that are missing from this board currently.

anyways, sorry to be :o

:D someone else said they thought that idea was a little childish but I kind of like the repo points idea on the other board. A similar system here would be great. Britmaveric would be awake all night trying to get his star levels up. :o

Some forward thinking people have built whole websites out of the peoples need for those 'gold stars'.

sorry again :D and though I am no grass, I have to say it was Tippys fault!

In 2000 plus posts of mainly innocuous rubbish I've never managed a warning (that I'm aware of) so am obviously cut from finer cloth than the ratbag, BKKmaddness!

However, I fully agree with many of his points about disclosure of warning levels to the poster involved, and for the reasons he has stated. He has also aired other quite valid points to which I'm sure most here acquiesce, but feel unable to express this because of fear of censure.

In a recent moment of frustration at the attitude of a particular headmaster, I very nearly picked up my pens and ruler and left the institution. In lieu of this extreme, I opted to use some disguised sarcasm which (perhaps fortunately) went through to the keeper.

I finished school more years ago than I care to remember, and spent too many years as a public servant than is healthy for anyone. In my dotage I don't want to have my every word and comment examined for political correctness by a varity of people whose opinions can vary greatly from person to person or be dependent on the time of night the ruling is made.

Having said that I will say moderation is necessary!!! Some of the people that inhabit the web dictate this.

Another forum that used to pretend it was unmoderated has given up this policy. Several members have been banned and one line, personally abusive posts are being deleted. This experiment proved, that there are people of such low intelligence and personal esteem that they can't manage at even the basest level. Some of these creatures were quite rightly banned from here. However, I strongly feel that the punishment in some cases has far outweighed the crime.

In summary, I'm asking Admin for more openess and a little more leniancy towards some of the characters out there. By all means get rid of the <deleted>, no one needs them.

Flaming of another member, ref get the yellow card out (but dont show it to him :o ).

Old Croc, join the rabble rousers ratbag club! :D

Now you know how I got my last warning just yesterday.

Request Noted, Admin informed.. wait and see what the outcome is.

Now, i think this thread is all but beaten to death, so i'm going to close it.

Feel free to abuse me via PM if you disagree with this decision and invisible warnings will be issued and insta ban's handed out like candy :o:D:D:D
