NAY PYI TAW, Sept 26 -- The Myanmar government has full confidence in Thailand’s interim government led by Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha, especially regarding vital projects which concern both neighbouring countries, Thai ambassador to Yangon Pisanu Suvanajata said today.

Relations between the two countries are now “very good” after Gen Prayuth announced clearly that his administration would develop the economy with the neighbouring countries, making Myanmar believe that important projects which concern the two countries such as the Dawei deep seaport and the Dawei industrial estate would continue, said Mr Pisanu.

He said there are signs that the Dawei project as well as other economic cooperation programmes between the two countries would continue in line with their policies and strategies which happen to assist each other, said Mr Pisanu.

This include making the two countries’ border a special economic zone.

His remarks were made as Gen Prayuth prepares to visit Myanmar around mid-October as his first destination among international trips to introduce himself as Thailand’s new prime minister.

The two countries are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Touching on security such as narcotics trafficking along the border, Mr Pisanu said more arrests have been made, resulting from exchanges of information, while the Thai government has repatriated more Myanmar nationals who have fled fighting in their country. (MCOT online news)

One military government (okay they have taken off their uniforms) has confidence in another junta!

What a surprise!!whistling.gif

The ASEAN club of military dictatorships.

This is another case of let's hear it from them. Otherwise its just more marketing by the Thais.

Today is a day of surprises. Who'd have thought it?

Wow. Myanmar supports them. That's huge. Better than putting a flag on the moon.

Than Shwe is one of the great despots of Asia. He has ruled with an iron fist for decades. He has amassed a fortune into the tens of billions from the heroin and gem trade. Over 50 of his top generals are billionaires. They continue to exert near total control over their country, despite the fake reform. And they approve of Thailand's govt? It is a bit like Putin calling you a great humanitarian. Or Obama calling for transparency in government. Thanks for the support, but it does not mean much coming from Burma.

"The Myanmar government has full confidence in Thailand’s interim government led by Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha" Interim? Political parties are banned. The man who claimed he had no interest in being PM bullies his cronies into electing him as PM. put's his mates in top positions and people still think this is an "interim government"? Nice to know his mates in Myanmar (the ones responsible for the yabba trade in Thailand) have confidence in him though.

This is (again) a strange article.

What we have is only Suvanajata's statement that the Myanmar government "has full confidence in Thailand’s interim government led by Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha," There is no quote by the Mynamar government to that effect. So the reader really doesn't Mynamar's position with the Junta from this article. Maybe we'll see more details on the two countries' relationship when General/Prime Minister Prayuth visits Mynamar.
