BANGKOK, Oct 2 - Minoru Kiuchi, Japan's vice-minister for foreign affairs, met Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, Thailand's prime minister and chief of the National Council for Peace and Order, at Government House this morning to emphasize the good bilateral ties that have continued for 127 years.

Gen Prayut welcomed Mr Kiuchi in his capacity as a special representative of the Japanese government as well as Japanese ambassador to Bangkok Shigekazu Sato at 10am this morning.

The prime minister expressed his gratitude towards the Japanese government for honoring the Thai government.

He stressed that the countries had had diplomatic relations for 127 years and his government was ready to cooperate with Japan in all respects.

Thai government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp attended the meeting and that Mr Kiuchi's arrival showed special significance because Japan is a major trading partner of Thailand and Thailand is a big trading partner of Japan in Southeast Asia.

It is the first time for Gen Prayut to welcome a representative of another country at Government House in his capacity as the prime minister.

The Ministry of Commerce reported that trade between Thailand and Japan amounted to US$63.4 billion last year and Japan is Thailand's second largest trading partner after China.

Thai exports to Japan amounted to $22.2 billion while imports are estimated at $31.6 billion.

In the first six months of this year the value of bilateral trade amounted to $28.9 billion, comprising $17.9 billion in Thai imports from Japan and $11 billion in Thai exports to the country. (MCOT online news)

Good news for Thailand but the red trolls and Thai bashers will not like it. Would rather hear doom and gloom so they have something to gloat about.

You might wish to refer to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website before embarrassing yourself further.Japan has been one of the lead countries in condemning the Junta and urging a rapid restoration of democracy.
