what about vinyl wrap?

some shops do a good job and you can always turn back to stock if needed.

Interesting, thanks for sharing ll2. Would be curious to know how it stands the test of time, sun, repeated waxings (can it be waxed?) or overspray from things like WD40 (which all of my bikes get regularly bathed in, though of course I try not to get it on my paint jobs).

a good quality protective film stands up just fine... better than paint in fact.

its the same film that is used by exotic owners to wrap their lambos, rolls royce, mclarens, etc.... so its certainly good enough for a motorcycle.

t protects your original paint from sun damage, rock chips, bugs, chemicals, etc.... you dont need to wax it, just wash it.... there is a special sealant you can apply once every 3 months, but its not imperative... i know many guys that never use the sealant and their protective film still looks perfectly clear.

even light scratches and abrasions will self-heal in the heat

if any particular area has a major issue, you can just peel off that section and re-cover it.

not trying to sound like a salesman for the stuff, i just have many friends that have used it on their exotic cars and everyone loves it..... just make sure you use a quality brand.... i have no idea which brands the local thai shops use, but you could contact them and find out.

Usually the wraps are applied to autos trucks bikes with new or newer paint. The only thing that really gets treated is if you have a windshield. If your paint is pitted from rocks or has chips in it the wrap will do nothing more than seal the surface. It is really not a paint substitute at all but a way to preserve an expensive paint job. Seriously if the paint is shot properly it will last upwards of 10 years but it is still substitutable to chips. Jay Leno's garage had an excellent segment on wraps. If you have a compromised paint job paint it first or suffer an expensive lesson in how to waste funds.

I like the wrap "9000 thb. not bad." but does it come with KY as they're sticking way up there.

Actually LL, I was thinking about doing something like this

http://i1258.photobucket.com/albums/ii531/nomadjoe74/spd_20140324170242_b.jpg

One of my friends has his versys repainted into yellowish orange color in combination with stickers it looked really good. I think he paid around 10k

nice!

but not fond of mat colors much.

i just want some small touches. Dont want the bike look a lot cheesy as well.

I want fluorescent red actually. Like this:

If you only want to add some black touches here are there, then any decent sticker shop can make them for you very cheaply.

Thanks macknife.

I know a shop close to my house that can do that but still thinking like it might look cheesy.

These guys are in Bangkok. They're specialists at wrapping cars but have done a lot of bikes too, by the looks of their gallery.

I'm quite tempted to wrap my tank because I prefer satin / matte finishes to glossy ones.

Just to update I had my tank and fly screen wrapped by the wrap-a-car guys and they did a really good job. Their place is down in Charoen Krung Road about 400 m left from the Thaksin Bridge. Cost THB 5000. The film is 3M brand and the tank colour is something called Matte Charcoal Metallic.

^ Coming down Sathorn when you turn left into Charoen Krung, keep on going till you come to the fire station on your left. These guys are right opposite the fire station on the main road (number 206/1-3 Charoen Krung Rd).

You can call Khun Bay, one of the owners, on 081 696 0707. He speaks good English.

that seems very high for just tank and screen.

i was quoted 9k for an entire bike..... which honestly i still think is high for thailand considering the labor rates, but with only a few providers around, they get to charge a premium price.

IMO fair pricing here would be 5k to get the entire bike wrapped..... but unlikely to ever see that price for a fullsize bike.

Problem is entite set of fairing for cbr650f costs like 5000 thb.

And protective film is 10.000 thb!

I am thinking only to cover the tank as well and maybe the headlight.

I agree it's quite pricey but I wanted it done and these guys looked to be the best of the bunch. To be fair to them, they openly said they were the most expensive in town because they only use genuine branded films, not lower quality and cheaper Chinese ones, and they guarantee the work.

To do the whole bike (which on an FZ09 admittedly is not much - front mudguard, tank, small side panels) would have been 7000.

It took several weeks to get a date to take the bike in so I suspect they're not really that bothered about bikes. They were wrapping a Lamborghini when I went to pick it up ...

Why not just have one of the shops paint the bike with Imron paint for the same price of the wrap that will die in time .the aircraft paint lasts seriously 10 or more years. Cost the same 5000-1000 baht would do almost 2 motorcycles with widjammer fairings the works while the paint is quite cheap. I Paint & wrap. These guys are making an absolute killing. New paint for a tank 2 stage is 2000 baht the wrap costs them 200 baht for a tank. Just sayin.
