PM Gen Prayut to meet officials on lifting the Martial Law in some areas

BANGKOK, 5 October 2014, (NNT) - Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkan Wattanawarangkul has indicated that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha may consider discussing the lifting of Martial Law in some areas this coming week.

The Minister told the press the Prime Minister is likely to raise the matter during a joint meeting between the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Tuesday at the Army’s Club. She expected that the lifting of the law would be applicable to the areas that do not have strong political tension, while saying that the Asian Beach Games to be held in Phuket will be among key factors for consideration.

Minister Kobkan’s claim is backed by Region 1 Army Commander Maj. Gen. Kampanart Ruddit’s comment which said a meeting of army units on the matter would be held tomorrow before the result of consideration is proposed to the joint meeting on the following day.

He admitted however that there are some political groups that still move against the NCPO and the Government which would affect the outcome of the meeting.
