Is there no easy way from Phuket to Langkawi return?

I see a "fast" ferry that takes 9 hours and the last leg is via a "speedboat".

I do not see direct flights either from Phuket to Bangkok

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Used to be a direct flight from phuket by Firefly on Saturdays and Sundays. A search indicates that this flight has been withdrawn. I guess you are stuck with a drive to Satun and ferry over to Langkawi. Not so sure that ferry from Phuket is a reliable option.

A good connection is with MAS. Phuket to Kuala Lumpur(KLIA) there at the gate only the stairs down and then flight to Langkawi. 10 min transfer time is enough. So all together about 1h50min. Easy and with advanced booking not to expensive.

The ferry from Phuket, is that Tiger Line? Would like to hear about recent experiences with that company.

I have used the Tiger Line ferry before, and went all the way to Koh Lipe, the last stop before Langkawi. Though did not do the trip in one day, stopped in Koh Mook for a couple of days on the way. The boat was fine on the way down, but they don't operate during Monsoon season. Actually while we were on Koh Lipe they cancelled the return journey and the only notice we got was via email, though we had given them a telephone number. Found out the day before the return journey and left us in the lurch having to book our own return travel. We ended up having to take a speed boat to Satun and then take the bus back to Phuket, which made for a long day of travel.

No food or drinks available on board, have to bring your own and the boat got pretty full towards the end of the trip.

I also used tiger line earlier the year traveling from phuket to koh lipe. Took maybe 6 hours. At Trang they stop for a break and there is plenty of food available to buy. BBq, crisps, khao pad eat. The journey itself was ok however I came close to losing my bags on the way over. I don't know what system they use there for organising the bags but it's crap. I would usually go up top for a smoke whenever we stopped at an island and I'm glad I did. When we got to PP I saw my bag had been unloaded and was on the other side. Once we got to lipe I almost lost my bag again. They told me to go ahead in the longtail to the beach and my bags would come later. Once on the beach it seems they started sending the bags with the passengers so I ended up having to get a longtail back to the ferry. Anyway long story short if you use tiger line keep an eye on your stuff. One of the seats was also falling off its hinges.

If I ever had to go there again I would go to lanta first and get the bundhaya speedboat to lipe. Or fly to hat yai and get a speedboat from there.

If you can fly from phuket to hat yai (which I think you can with Thai) I'm sure there will be a boat of some sort to langkawi.

Good luck

Thanks for the ferry reports. I think these were the first ones, which said that the ferry leaves from Phuket and goes all the way to Koh Lipe.

Previous ones mentioned that there is a "ferry" which was actually land transportation from Phuket to Trang or somewhere in the area.

Where does the Ferry actually leave? The Tiger line says from Rassada, but from where in there? Also what were the costs for you? Online booking says about 2000B to Koh Lipe.
