BANGKOK: -- Two ping pong bombs were thrown at a concert in front of Nakhon Phanom townhall late Tuesday night, wounding 24 people.

The concert played by a lone musician Poo Pongsit was held as part of the Lai Rua Fai traditional fair after the Buddhist Lent.

Two ping pong bombs were hurled into some 2,000 audience watching the performance, sending the people to run in panic.

Nobody was killed but more than 20 were injured, mostly slightly. They received primary treatment at hospital and were later allowed to return homes.

Police suspected rival groups of teenagers who turned drunk were responsible.

Police have banned the selling of all liquors at the fair but these teenagers might brought in from outside to drink.
Earlier in the day police arrested 26 vendors selling beer and liquors in front of the fair area.

However some might smuggle into the fair ground and sold to teenagers.

The future looks very bleak for Thailand, never heard about things like this 20-30 years ago here.

But it did, Suraphol Sombatcheron Thailands most famous singer at the time was gunned down after a concert in 1968. His son Surachai later became a singer and reported being shot at and having a bomb explode at a concert killing many people. Local mafia extorted money from concert organisers or the concert would be attacked. Many have been stabbed or shot at concerts over the past 30 years. I have seen people gunned down in a Surin concert this time of year (boat racing) in 2009.

A few times I have seen minor trouble at concerts and guess who got the blame- mayamar people!

If cannabis and / or MDMA were more easily available and tolerated then the youths who switch to consuming them instead of ethanol may no longer be bothered to engage in aggressive violent behavior that injures others. In the case of MDMA, they may even all become good friends to party with.

Yea because no violence ever happens when a person is high. LOL you are the perfect example of why drugs are and should be illegal.

So instead of them being grogy and agressive they can be delusional(like your post), lame brain, and slow, yup that sure will stop the violence.

Surachai commenting (at 6.10) 30 years ago on concert violence, land of smiles anyone? This film series is a very rare look at Thai music from that time.

Asks anyone who has experience working event management security. Drunk people - particularly liquored up - tend to fight. Alcohol + yabba, even more so.

We went to a big concert years ago near Khon Kaen. It had to be canceled because of all the fighting. Found out later that every one of the concerts on the tour had to be canceled because of the fighting. Not one concert on the entire tour got to finish. Must have been handy for Bodyslam who were headlining. They only had to play for a few minutes and got paid for the full whack. :D

Not surprising as most violence occurs at either phua cheewit concerts, Carabao being particularly bad, or lam cing concerts. Upcountry is often worse due to rival village youths clashing, or even people from different parts of the same town. Personally I don't like much phua cheewit, seems to bring out the very worst in kids for some reason.

please, refrain from using a nasty tone when talking about topics whose specifics you are obviously not familiar with

the original poster was not pretending that violence could not happen in proposed circumstances

i'm sure there are a few murders that we could attribute to too much coffee

but he is definitely right when saying that mdma would possibly make those rival teens realize how stupid violence is, and help them become friends instead

if you knew... you would know

but obviously, you don't... yet you comment
