Cambodian protests border shootings

BANGKOK: -- Cambodia's Foreign Ministry has filed a complaint with its Thai counterpart over two shootings that resulted in deaths of two Cambodians and a soldier, deputy Thai foreign spokesman Russ Jalichandra said on Wednesday.

Cambodia sent the protest note to the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh on October 3. The note identified two incidents. In the first, on September 28, Thai soldiers allegedly shot two Cambodian villagers who were cutting trees near An Mah pass.

The second took place the following day near the eastern side of the Preah Vihear Temple when a Khmer soldier was shot dead during the fighting between Thai and Khmer troops.

Russ said the Thai foreign ministry will cross check the allegations with the authorities concerned.

"The foreign ministry would be pleased if the Cambodian side could send it more information so that the investigation into the case would be clearer," he said. The investigation will take a while, he added.

Meanwhile an informed source said the Suranaree Task Force informed the ministry that the second incident had not taken place in the area as claimed by Phnom Penh.

Cambodia is upset with the shooting of two of their citizens, while Myanmar is upset the the tacticals of the Thai police. This government isn't making many friends lately. At least YL had friendly relationships at both borders.

No wonder the YL government had good relations with Cambodia, since the "eternal friend" Hun Sen was on her brothers payroll!!whistling.gif

I must say, that the Cambodians are a little slow to react, since the first "incident" took place almost 2 weeks ago.

Maybe this helped

Former PM Somchai Wongsawat's youngest daughter, who is also TS & YL's niece, is married to the son of Cambodian PM Hun Sen's right-hand man.

YL liked visiting Cambodia so much she visited there for the day in September 2011.

Apparently the shopping wasn't good so she didn't stay long

Correct....the Hermes store wasn't finished at that time!

Didn't those illegal Cambodia workers knoes that under martial law of PM General Prayuth, all protest are ban.

They should all crawl back under their ruin temple rocks.

BTW, Angkor Wat used to be in Thailand, until the French rob it for the Khmers.

When you are under domestic pressure find an external enemy to focus the minds upon. A little border skirmish would not go amiss at times like this...

Careful, your last sentence might get the thai embassy burn again in Cambodia.....facepalm.gif

All things in LOS considered, are you really surprised? Thai people (historically) have had a war against every one of their neighbors, but never took the blame for provoking any of them. Everybody else is always in the wrong, while the Thais are always "the good guys" whistling.gif And when they didn't have a "foreigner" to fight against, then they turned on each other, and the carnage (between Thais) was massive. Read up on Thai history. Thais are exactly like the tribal klansmen of Afghanistan.
