Angry Monk caught with Elephant Goad at South Pattaya Temple

PATTAYA: -- Police were called to a South Pattaya Temple on Wednesday Morning following reports of a potentially violent confrontation which was about to take place between a Monk and the Chief Abbot.

Officers arrived at the Tamsamakee Temple in South Pattaya just after 10am and were directed to the residence of Phra Surin aged 75, who had been earlier disarmed by other monks. He was seen to be carrying an Elephant Goad, which is a tool used in the training and handling of elephants, and was seen to be walking towards the residence of the Chief Abbot of the Temple, Phra Somboon.

When Police arrived they spoke to both the Monk and Chief Abbot. Phra Surin said he was only going to confront Phra Somboon over long-standing issues between the pair and did not intend to use the implement in any way.

Phra Somboon, the Chief Abbot, explained that the pair had issues with each other for 10 years, since he took over as Chief Abbot from Phra Surin’s elder brother. Phra Somboon claimed he had disciplined Phra Surin on numerous occasions.

Angry Monk --- sounds like a smart phone game

That can't be Phra Surin holding the implement he "did not intend to use" in the pic. He's 75.

Oh lord , won't u buy me a mercedes benz , my friends all drive porsches I must make amends .whistling.gif

Seriously , monks should be an example for the community , anger should not have any room in Bhudism .

All humans have anger management challenges from time to time. It really shouldn't shock us so much that a monk has done this.

While it's a beautiful concept to strive for the peaceful middle way and to believe that Buddhist monks are apparently setting an example for us, it's just not reality.

Duh. Another Thai Visa Crime Scene expert on the prowl.

The photo wasn't meant to show a police re-enactment of the "crime."

If you bothered to click the link to the story, you would have seen the other photos.

He's 75 and apparently been a monk for quite while. He's also human. To assume any Buddhist, whether monk or lay person, has been able to totally extinguish all his less desirable emotions is naive. All religions and isms have goals that followers strive to achieve, but it's rare that anyone ever attains them all. Even the Pope goes to confession every day (and no, contrary to popular belief, he makes no claim to infallibility as a person).

Angry Monk Mercedes Benz Elephant Goad Chief Abbot ....... the plot thickens

Is it Buddhism in general or is it just Thai Buddhism that always makes news?

The Parish Mag must make interesting reading.

The monk in the background seems to find it all quite hilarious.
