BANGKOK, Oct 10 -- Mazda will invest Bt12 billion to build a plant to manufacture 150,000 Mazda 2 and eco car sedans annually, said Industry Minister Chakramon Phasukavanich on Friday.

His remarks followed a meeting with Hiroshi Inoue, chief executive officer of Japan's Mazda Motor Corp, where he was informed that Mazda had sought and received promotional privileges from Board of Investment to produce eco cars 2 in Thailand following its sales success of Mazda 3.

Mr Inoue said sales of Mazda in Thailand ranked fourth highest in the world.

Mazda has decided to invest in building a new plant at Hemaraj Industrial Estate in the eastern province of Rayong, said Mr Chakramon.

Construction will start November 6.

Mazda 2 and the eco cars are powered by both diesel and benzene, he said.

They will be sold in Thailand and export to the European Union as well. (MCOT online news)

Hopefully they will spend some money getting English speaking staff for their support of Mazda car buyers in Thailand. My last attempt to speak with them revealed they had no staff with good English skills

Okay, I understand your frustration BUT!!

Let us suppose for a moment that you are English and that you live in England where you own a Mazda Franchise and a Thai Customer, who doesn't speak much, if any of YOUR Language comes to you, wanting you to spend money on employing THAI Speaking Staff....what would your response be?

Mazda/Ford same company. Vehical underpinnings identical. Only body shape changed to make you think you are buying a different car. Imho they use the Mazda brand in Asia as Japanese brands are more established.

Get with the times, we are now in 2014.. back in 2008 when Ford was going down the drain Mazda bought back there shares.

All Mazda's are in house design these days with there own chassis, body and engines

Last time I was in California buying a new car, they didn't speak Thai. Weird...... lousy customer service.

How many Thai customers are buying cars in Britain - or America? Precious few I would think. And I bet the Brits could rustle up a Hindi speaker if it helped make a sale or the Yanks could find a Spanish speaker in the same circumstances. In any event we brits happen to speak the worlds language and the Americans a reasonable approximation of it There are thousands of Westerners resident in Thailand as well as possibly tens of thousands of Japanese, Koreans, Malaysians, Singaporeans who want to buy cars and have them serviced. Surely enough to merit at lest one reasonable English speaker on the staff of at least the larger franchises.

As to the subject of this post. I am disappointed that the Japanese, who believe in democracy nowadays, are seen to be rewarding' the military dictators with this announcement of investment. It would help to encourage a return to democracy in Thailand if Western (including Japanese) companies would hold off investment until the dictators put away their guns and restore power to the people.

My complaint about English not being spoken is not at the local dealer. It is at Mazda Thailand's main support office. I do not expect the local dealer to speak English, but I do expect head office to have somebody who speaks English available to assist. Asean is around the corner and the government is promoting Thais to speak English. You would think that at Thailand's head office of an International company they could have someone in customer support with good English skills
