PATTANI: -- The Pattani provincial court has ordered an a manhunt of a convict who was allowed to walk free by a police officer after he was sentenced to one year and nine months on counterfeiting charges by the court on Thursday.

The police officer, Pol Sub-Lt Aroon Srisukmak, deputy inspector for suppression attached to Pattani’s Muang district police station, who was assigned to keep watch the convict, Mr Sahachai Jiansermsin, the owner of Sahasap Thawee Kha Mai limited partnership, alais Sia Jo, was ordered jailed for six months for contempt of court for allowing Mr Sahachai to escape shortly after the court handed down the jailterm on him.

The court also lodged a complaint with the police accusing Pol Sub-Lt Aroon of malfeasance in office allowing a convict to escape from a detention cell at the court.

Normally, after the court’s conviction, the convict will be escorted by corrections officials to the provincial person to serve the sentence unless he/she was granted a bail.

All border crossings have been alerted about Sahachai’s escape to prevent him from slipping out of the country to Malaysia. It was reported that some officials had helped him escape out of Pattani.

Mr Sahachai is an influential businessman in Pattani with businesses in timber and fishery. He was suspected of running oil smuggling activities by using modified fishing trawlers to smuggle oil from Malaysia which the price is much cheaper in Thailand. But authorities lack the evidences to implicate him except for the charges of faking official seals.

How can anyone believe a word of it about so called ending corruption when the police are this 'in your face' about blatant corruption?

It's like they have all been told not to worry..... We have a right to be corrupt and no reforms are going to change a thing... Be as open as you like... You won't even lose your job.

How much do you bet, he will not go to jail but instead transferred to an inactive post on a nice island resort.

All expenses paid......of course.

And once again another member of the RTP proves what an honest and honorable individual he is - and by extension his entire organization.

The often used police slogan "To Protect and Serve" takes on a completely new twisted meaning in this country: to protect the culprit and serve his or her interests, most often in exchange for a brown bag full of goodies.

Why is everybody so negative?

I heard never before that police were sentenced for illegal activity and I heard never about a manhunt on an illegellaly free

convicted

Btw why are Jatuporn and Nattawut not in prison?

They jailed the police collaborator for six months. Probably with pay and benefits. Then back on the job, no criminal charges of conspiracy to aid and abet and no loss of pay and benefits in the future.

This story is about the release of a convicted criminal by a corrupt police officer. I am surprised you didn't ask why Thaksin wasn't in jail, after all he broke bail and fled. Nat and Jat are still here in Thailand and being good boys, to the best of my knowledge.

How about the 2 cops, from up north, that were sentence for murder, but immediately released on bail, never to be seen again. I believe "murder" is an "illegal" activity.

What is your basis for this comment? Can you provide previous examples? The fact that he was actually sentenced to jail is a big step for Thailand as far as I can see (assuming, of course, he actually serves the time!).

There is a massive difference between being sentenced and carrying out the sentence in Thailand.

Possibly released on bail pending appeal.. which may or may not happen and if it does probably after retirement.

Actually there is a very good chance that the stupid policeman will spend 6 months in jail.

Many will remember the 'lunch box' bribery attempt by Thaksin's lawyers who did have to serve their time for contempt of court.

dont look too hard. you might find him and it'll be harder to excuse his next "escape". better to have found a scapegoat- a perfect solution

Mr Aroon sounds perfectly qualified for a transfer to an inactive post on Koh Tao. His ability to look the other when gangsters are going about their business should prove invaluable and will definitely enhance tourist safety.

Poor guy this Pattani businessman, when they catch him he will be slammed with another 10´000 Baht for bribing the police officer. sad.png

If I understand correctly one of these lawyers, after doing his time, was back representing another of the PT, red wrongdoers. Why wasn't he barred ?
