More Thais expected to travel abroad this quarter

BANGKOK: -- Six million Thais are expected to travel abroad this year, with a year-on-year increase of 10 per cent forecast for the current quarter, thanks to cheaper packages and attractive air fares.

"This year, the outbound sector is outstanding compared to the inbound and domestic sectors," Suparerk Soorangura, president of the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) - the outbound body - said yesterday.

Outbound business for the entire year is expected grow by about 5 per cent, while the final quarter alone should be 10 per cent higher than the same period last year, he said.

Inbound arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport, meanwhile, dropped 19 per cent during the first nine months, but is expected to rebound slightly during the current quarter.

The TTAA predicts that the number of Thais going abroad will increase from 5.7 million last year to 6 million this year.

Key factors behind the growth are the fact that tough competition has forced tour operators to lower their package prices by more than 5 per cent, while airlines have offered more attractive fares to boost sales during both the low-period third quarter and the current high season, said Suparerk.

Moreover, some countries have adjusted their visa regulations, such as Japan, which now offers a visa exemption for Thai tourists, he added.

Foreign national tourism organisations in Thailand have also upped their marketing efforts in an effort to attract more Thai visitors, while many locals flocked to the "Thai International Travel Fair" held in Bangkok last month and purchased attractive overseas packages on offer at the event.

Suparerk said outbound business should continue to expand next year if the government holds a general election and approves major investment plans for the country's infrastructure system.

Anake Srichevachart, president of the Thai-Japan Travel Business Association, said Japan had become the most popular destination for Thai tourists.

Last year, about 400,000 Thais visited the country, and the number is expected to reach 600,000 this year.

Thailand is the fourth biggest source of tourists for Japan, following mainland China, South Korea and Taiwan.

I wonder what the Thais do in Japan?

I hear some are teaching their world famous Massage skills to weary Japanese businessmen.

Work visas ?

And perhaps too on tourist visas (similar to the ones the western men get for their girlfriends)

Alas some things never change .

However, i am sure there are a percentage of tourists travelling not as "rich study students" in other countries.

Or the above.

And just spending Thai money from their booming economy in the Likes of Tokyo and Paris - New York -

(I hear they have Yellow taxis there.)

Just another propaganda piece designed to distract Thais and others of the impending comet of tourism impact.

Poor old Fred, desperate for Thai tourism to collapse. It's not going to happen Fred, so long as peoplè can afford to travel.

I realise from the recent survey reveaĺing 1 in 6 Australians live on the poverty linè that soon your couñtrymen mày be unable tò visit LOS but there are plenty of others to take their place.

Thailand's got it all, lovely weather, beautiful coastlines, mountain trekking, bustling markets. And all with a degree of comfort at affordable prices.

Numbers may dip due to various factors, but like a beautiful woman, the suitors will keep coming despite any warnings from concerned relatives.

"Suparerk said outbound business should continue to expand next year if the government holds a general election and approves major investment plans for the country's infrastructure system." I would suggest that, if fair and impartial, elections will slow the number of Thai tourists (refugees) traveling to developed countries.

Well that just solved the 10% drop from yesterday's news rolleyes.gifwhistling.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gif

Reading impaired? The article is about Thais going elsewhere, not people from elsewhere traveling to Thailand.

What kind of people do you hang out with?

Will TAT have reps at the airports singing the old classic ' Please Don't Go, I want You To Stay ' ?

Well , i maintain Thais going abroad don't reflect prospering Thailand at all

But lets entertain your little swipe for a moment shall we?

All countries have some poverty….Australia has some too.

But our lines are higher than poverty in Asia

Australia has the highest median wealth in the world.

Second highest minimum wage of $17 an hour.

Poverty line is defined as less than $22k a year.($400 a week)

Take out aged pensioners and unemployed thats your one in six.

The rest of us travel and prosper-

But lets stay on topic -

Lets not talk "poor Fred " or the 78% of Australians who can travel overseas every year.

Yes we have a higher passport ownership than most countries.

Lets look at Thailand -

Australians along with many other countries choose mindfully where they travel.

They observe warning and digest information available .

These are the real reasons people are switching off Thailand .

Guns and Death Military Threat-

Warnings.

Simple .

Dress it up anyway you want.

Besides the topic was about Thais going abroad in bigger numbers .

I have just received a news text stating the govt has announced tax breaks for domestic package tours and accommodation to encourage LOCAL tourism.rolleyes.gif

Thais have been trafficking women to Japan to work in bars, nightclubs, cabarets and other Japanese entertainment facilities for years and years.

"thanks to cheaper packages "

good to see Thailand is showing the lead in promoting quality tourism.

No the reading comprehension is fine, I was simply responding to Fred's last line where he forecasts the imminent collapse of the Thai tourist industry

well if these countries start "screening" the thai holiday makers most will probably be sent home againw00t.gif

Lets hope none of them are battered to death on the beach by the local mafia that the police then protect

The Swiss bank’s annual Global Wealth Report revealed that Australian adults boast the highest median wealth in the world – A$258,092 (US$225,000) – for the fifth year in a row.

Right…….

Bet there is not many Thais going to the UK . Getting a visa is a big problem .

There was mention a while ago that the Thai government would enact a reciprocal arrangement to countries that make it difficult for Thais to visit .

Can you imagine the grief & toil to apply for a visa to come to Thailand from the UK with the same parameters imposed as those used by the UK border agency

and its filter agency in Bangkok

It's a big problem for many countries. Its a knightnare trying to get my wife a simple visit visa for 10 days for some.

I wonder if the other countries of the world are also concerned about "quality tourists"? whistling.gif
