Will have spine operation in Bkk.

Limited mobility, walking with a rollator. Before flying back home, will rest a few days in a 4/5 Star hotel. Not the plush is important only convenience = large room,. must be well lit, comfortable seating. No Thick carpets, hard to walk with rollator.

Which hospital are you going to?

Might be some suitable ones nearby.

I like the suite rooms at Furama Xclusive in Asoke, nice large rooms and very comfortable and good value. I think more in the 4 star range

furama looks good. At second thought = any hotel directly connected via lift with nice shopping center?

The advantage being = not stuck in a room. Short walks to a restaurant etc.

Anything else with a rollator /taxi too cumbersome.

Grande Centrepoint terminal 21 or Emporium suites would also be an option

The Grand CerterPoint at Terminal 21 suggested by MrToad would also have the advantage of a direct entrance to the BTS Skytrain.

Emporium is currently under massive renovation and their direct BTS entrance closed. The projected completion date is supposed to be in December but I wouldn't count on it.

The Amarin also comes to mind...direct link to the walkway going from Chit Lom to Siam, access to several large shopping complexes: Amarin Plaza, Central World, Gaysorn, the new Embassy Mall, Central, ect.

The very nice Kampinsky Hotel is attached to Siam Paragon, the most popular mall in Bangkok with a huge selection of dining options, not too far from BNH.

I forget the name but there is also a hotel attached to the huge MBK mall. Always very congested with a lot of shoppers and stalls crammed everywhere so probably not the best choice for somebody in a wheelchair or using a walker.

The one with connection to MBK is Pathumwan Princess. It's very nice. Easy access to MBK from hotel's lobby level. Once through the lobby doors, the MBK elevators are right there to get up to the MBK food court. It would, however, be a fairly long walk through MBK and out the other end to get to the BTS platform (National Stadium Station).

If you want to be in the Siam Square area, a closer connection to BTS would be the Asia Hotel which has a direct connection to the BTS at Rathewee Station. Getting from the lobby to the station, however, does require climbing a flight of stairs inside the hotel.

Agoda gives the Asia 4 stars, and Pathumwan Princess 5 stars.

Don't have a hotel recommendation. Serviced apartment or hotel with good services is what you need. Don't know what kind of spine surgery you are having. But I had spinal fusion done years ago and I wan't up to going out in malls for some time. Yes you need to get up and walk a little bit as you can. I ordered meals delivered from different restaurants when I had my surgery.

Another thing to consider is stay away from crowded malls or public walkways. The last thing you want is some kids running and bumping into you or adults too busy looking at their mobile phones to notice and bump you. After spine surgery that can be very painful for a while. I still get pain if some brat kicks my theater seat or airline seat. (They don't do it for very long). Good luck I hope you get relief of pain and recover uneventfully. Take any pain pills offered. This is not the time to be stoic. You need to take them on a regular basis to get rid of the pain. It is not good to take when the pain comes because then you are always chasing the pain instead of remaining relatively pain free or in lesser pain.

Well, Orchidlady, you saved me a lot of whatever. Your experience matters the most! I was overly optimistic reading that I may up and running a few days after the op. The thought of getting bumped into is very illustrative, I can just feel the pain.

Much much obliged!

Some advice for you. Dont have the operation in Thailand. Why are you doing this? There are no standards in that country and you could either very well end up dead or paying even more for your home country doctor to fix up the Thai doctors mess. "Saving Money" by having an op in LOS think again!!

Though perhaps not as well located, we loved our recent stay at Somerset in Thong Lor. We got a 1BR suite and it was very nice. A decent size kitchen and I think it even had a washing machine. Big refrig. Lots of options for food delivery.

Signup for their membership and you'll get a decent discount on the rooms. Hallways are carpeted though...

The one on top of Central World allows a lot of walking around, food is all right and good city views. Central World is big and with some coffee shops almost "outdoors", can walk around the mall and a bit in the front, in the mall have TK Park with library and computers for small fee, nice bookshop in Isetan, sky walk will allow you in one direction visiting Siam Paragon and from there MBK etc,[but that can be a bit long walk], in another direction, one can go to Chitlom Mall, and other shopping centers along the skywalk. Connection to BTS will allow you to visit some parks, or at least one, the one by Emporium [about three BTS stops}, when you feel strong enough.

Even if I don´t use your recommendations now, they good for the future . Saves a lot of time searching with Hotel search engines.

Of benefit to readers of this thread as well.

I hear you well and thought about this. Looking at http://bnhhospital.com/ Spine Center Dr Wicharn and having consulted with him, I feel in good hands.

Definitely check out service apartments that also double as hotels such as Centerpoint or Emporium suites, they usually have big rooms and minimal carpeting. Not to mention Centerpoint can be booked at a great price.

he was asking for a 4-5 star Hotel, not a run-down and worn DUMP (with carpet, BTW, which he wants to avoid), where - for some reason - they cannot charge more than 600-700 Baht for a room per night.

OP, maybe you should have a look at the NOVOTEL SILOM, which is not far from your hospital, and the newly opened NOVOTELs usually do not have carpet, but rather laminate flooring.

The location is not exactly in the middle of the action, but from what you wrote, this is not what you require anyway. The HOLIDAY INN SILOM is quite good too, as long as you go for the CLUB FLOOR, where you can relax for hours in the lounge with decent food, chilled white wines and friendly staff.
