Moving from Aus to chiangrai

I am looking for advice regarding shipping household goods/furniture etc. from Sydney to Chiangrai.

Wondering if any members have gone through the process and can recommend a shipping agent etc.

Want someone to handle the shipping door to door. Do not want to collect items in Bangkok.

Not sure if the whole exercise is viable.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

I used the company at URL for shipping 20 ft container door to door from Oz to Thailand. If you want will pack and unpack, incl removal of packing material. Great service, no problems.

EDIT: If you are relocating with Thai partner, ship in her name

I would start my search at your port of departure, not your destination. Any reputable world wide moving company should be able to provide you with all the information you need. Get a quote from two or three in your area and perhaps check their business reputation if you are worried.

In shipping goods it is important to consider duty which would be payable unless.

It is a thai returning after a couple of years absense.

or you have a work permit and at least a one year visa (not retirement)

Highly likely that the whole exercise is not viable. You'd no doubt be better off selling things like household furniture and white goods before you depart, then buying what you need new in CM, or renting a furnished house.

If the stuff is imported by a thai having lived overseas it is viable from australia as the electrical goods are the same voltage as here. Onloy one of each class of item is allowed duty free....ie one tv. If you have to pay duty it is not viable.

All helpful posts are welcome and greatly appreciated, but it would be much friendlier to leave off the superfluous editorial and promotional comments at the beginning.wai.gif
