Hi,

some days ago I went for a renewal of my Hospital Card which I got last year for about 2800 Baht. Also this time it was not any problem. However, a friend of mine who appeared today was rejected. "This scheme is only for Burmese or other Asian Migrant Workers. Not for farangs"

What is your experience?

What is the law saying?

This is not a matter of law but of MoPH policy.

The 2,80 insurance scheme was designed for migrant workers and priced accordingly. Howver the original directive which went out was unclearly worded and just said "foreigner", with the result that in some parts of the ocuntry (not all), hospitals provided it to expats.

Eventually the MoPH became aware of this and issued a clarification, with the result that:

- some hospitals immediately revoked the cards they had issued (refunding the money)

- some hospitals honored the cards already given but did not issue new ones nor give renewals

- and some hospitals apparently are still issuing them (very few though).
