The Guy With No Legs Who Crawls Around Sukhumvit...

Featured Replies

This poor beggar...Can't someone find him a wheelchair?

Why is he reduced to crawling on his stomach? Couldn't he remain stationary and still come across the thousands of pedestrians along Sukhumvit anyway?

Any insight on this?

I suspect it's 'marketing' (sorry, can't think of a better word), after nearly falling over the guy people feel obliged to give more, it's easier to walk past a static beggar.

We have a chap with a similar disability (polio I understand) who operates our local teak furniture outlet. A very smart guy, zooms around on what looks like a tea-tray with castors, shows furniture to clients, takes the cash etc. Absolutely no begging involved.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I saw a photo where he has wheelchair but leaves it in a back street and slides around tugging at heart strings making good money.

Here he is, the sukhumvit slider.

I've also heard him referred to as the sukhumvit worm

Don't be fooled. These beggars can make 50k plus a month. I guess that's why the mafias got their hand in the cookie jar

I know plenty of guys crowing around Sukhumvit WITH LEGS, AND still wouldn't help them...

50K !!

Lordy lordy

There's probably a lot of resident falangs interested in doing split shifts with him - maybe he should start franchises :)

.

I saw police one night pick one of these guys up on Soi 7 in Pattaya and then another policeman comes along and puts his prosthetic legs in the back of the police truck along with him.

Many of these beggars are scamming in one way or another. It's a shame if there are real ones out there, because I never give money knowing all the scams.

Ahaaaa! Know that guy. He has his motorbike and leg parked up at the gas station near Suk 23/ corner. He is doing alright.

Same as the 1-2 lady's at Asoke Exchange Tower. have 2-3-4 kids sitting there.....I was looking out my window one morning and they came out of an apartment. Then sitting and eating breakfast, rice, grilled chicken, soup.....etc.....NEVER GIVE ANYTHING TO THESE FREELOADERS.

He's as far up as On Nut and quite often at Phrom Phong. Heard him referred to as the Sukhumvit Slug and Concrete Swimmer too.

MIssing his hand too. Decoy for pick pockets.

Lord have mercy.

On a positive note, I just saw a TV expose' about a limbless guy who travels the world as a motivational speaker, and has books out. This chap was last in Korea, speaking to very large audiences.

I once watched him for 5 five minues. In that time he trousured 200 baht

I think the guy you're talking about makes 10K THB per day and has been doing this for years.

He also gives a huge amount of money to one of the temples each year. We see that on the TV.

The extra long pants tied at the bottom sure do you look like he has lost limbs,

but he's been doing it for years and that's his "job", everyone knows him, he works hard

for his money and he's far from homeless. You have to give him credit where credit's due.

All these people are mafia related. Most get a bed & food everyday ... dropped off in the morning and picked up at night.

nothing more ... nothing less .......coffee1.gif

Initially felt bad for him when I noticed him a month ago but quickly realized it's all a scheme, there is no reason for someone to 'crawl' like this, even without legs. He could just as well setup shop on the side of the road and sit. An obvious attempt at sympathy.

I've been watching people play these games in San Francisco and NYC for years. It's nothing new but it's a shame as it takes money away from those that truly need it. Hard to tell who that is around here though with the mafia hovering over many.

Even with prosthetics and blood, sure wouldn't want to be him. No issues with him making a living.
