Anybody Enjoys Edge Speeds In Thailand?

Featured Replies

am contemplating about a new mobile phone

am regularely linked to GPRS.

but there is EDGE!

am on AIS, they only have a few EDGE spots in their network.

am ready to switch to DTAC which covers a wide EDGE network.

but is it really faster?

any EDGE experiences?

if so, whats the average connection speed?

I use DTAC and have been on their B999 package for 1.5 years. The max bandwidth I ever got was 100k in BKK. Average connect speed in BKK is around 60k. Never got more than 38k (although internet bandwidth is a lot less than that) outside BKK.

They disconnect me very frequently although the phone shows max signal strength, so it is really only good for downloading smaller emails etc. Surfing, large emails or downloads >1Mb is nearly impossible.

Now, if you sign up for their B999 package it will expire after 12 months. They will not send you any notice or anything, but your bill for month 13 will be a lot higher than the usual ones if you do not remember this and renew the package subscription before it expires (I got a bill for some B5k because I did not know this).

I was told that Hutch is a better choice but haven't had a chance to try them out yet.

I have Dtac, though I agree it can be kind of slow sometimes, I have been about to download 5-10 mb files from limewire.

Where are good spots in BKK to get the best edge speeds do you think?
