BANGKOK, Nov 5 -- Thailand has officially informed Myanmar of 10 key drug suspects wanted by the Thai authorities and are seeking the neighboring country's help to arrest them.

They include key suspects in drug syndicates in Thailand's North and major drug kingpin Lt Col Yi Se.

Permpong Chaovalit, secretary-general of the Office of Narcotics Control Board, said the 10 key drug traders are hiding in Myanmar and that the request is a follow-up from the visit of Justice Minister Paiboon Khoomchaya to Myanmar last Friday.

He said the Myanmar government had difficulty finding the suspects in areas under the control of ethnic groups.

Mr Permpong said that next month Thailand, China, Myanmar and Laos will launch a joint campaign to suppress drug trafficking in the Mekong River region.

Areas along the river were occupied by ethnic groups and only an estimated 20 per cent of narcotics transported through the river areas had been blocked, he said.

He mentioned two narcotics smuggling routes to Thailand.

One is on land and connects to the northern provinces of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. The other is through the Mekong River and Laos to the Northeast.

Mr Permpong said Thailand agreed with Myanmar's request to expand development projects in border villages in Myanmar to reduce narcotics production and improve the life of local residents.

The Thai justice minister told Myanmar authorities to select locations for development projects by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, which would be able to help develop (MCOT online news)

Well moving through small VILLAGES like Chiang Mai must go almost unnoticed because hardly any people there.

THIS is the KEY area for the last 50 years and why so many people here are so wealthy. KNOW to EVERY drug agency world wide. And they are NOT going to stop it because too many powerful people in control. Only the minions will get sacrificed as always

They can issue as many arrest warrants as they want, as long as the supposed law-enforcers are paid big money by the syndicates, nothing is going to change!!coffee1.gif

May be off-topic; I recognized on many such pictures with yaba, that there are often is 1 green tablet. How it comes? Is this the joker? Double strong then the others?

So when are they finally going to issue arrest warrants for the local drug lords back home here in Thailand. You know, those "influential persons" who make a pretty buck by importing drugs and selling them to the local populace? Some of them have been known for years, if not decades. Thailand - oh so concerned whenever "foreigners" are involved, but never interested in cleaning up its own backyard. After all, it might jeopardize that new Mercedes next year.

Can't imagine what Thailand will say, when arrest warrants are issued for some of their people in the Kho Tao murders,

Does this not open the door for that, assuming the calls for a new investigation turns into a chorus?
