i got my bikes mot done first

then into the insurance office and got that

then into the road tax office got my queue ticket and sat down

ten minits later my numbers up and i give the lady my green book etc

she punches in my details and i can see by the look on her face that says

how on earth can i tell him

so she talks to the girl next to her and gives my papers

shes not happy either and goes to see a man at the back

talk talk blah blah etc he looks at me and says ... one moment please

5 minits later he goes over to another lady and they call me up

theres a problem you have to go to pay a fine at the police station

i said ok .... whats the fine for ?

we dont know but we cant give you the tax disk untill you pay the fine

at the police station they produced a very official letter which im not posting coz ive no idea what it says and he said pay 500 baht over there

i asked what the fine was for and he didnt know but i got an official fine ticket !

back at the tax office the queue ticket girl sent me out into the garden to an office that had hundreds of new number plates on the desks

and the man took the very official looking letter punched in the details and told me to go back to the queue number girl

i did that waited until my number was up and the same very worried looking girl earlier was now all smiles and gave me the tax disk

for102 baht

i cant understand or read what it says on the fine and none of them could either so what was i fined for .... anyone know ?

just another day in paradise .:) .. dave2

Great story Dave.....I needed a laugh this morning and unfortunately you provided it. I suppose it doesn't matter how law abiding you are, if they want money then they will get it come hell or high water.

As we know from our parent countries, things work differently in both locations. An illegible fine/ticket would be laughed out of court back home....not quite the same here. I suppose the Thai authority way of thinking goes along the lines of ¨Well, if the officer took the time to write the infringement notice out then you must find the time to pay it¨ Seems a bit like Irish logic to me, and no offense to the Irish intended.

Otherwise Dave I hope you have an otherwise pleasant weekend, or whats left of it. wai.gif

The sister in law had the same happen to her, the offence took place somewhere she had never been, the ticket was put down to a mistake and cancelled.

Except that they didn't get it. Maybe they didn't want it?

and none of them could figure out why i thought it was so funny

re

it says you are an alleged offender. I think you should pay the fine with alleged baht.

too late .. already paid

i cant eat or see any new err ummm eerrr friends for at least a week now coz im broke :(

dave2

ps ... if i dont get a reasonable answer to this im going to confuse them all again by going back to the police station and asking them tomorrow ..... dont you just love this place :)

From what I can gather you have jumped a Red Light.

In that case the police must provide video or photo proof.

Oh, must they?

I suppose he could spend a few thousand baht on a lawyer to get the Bt500 fine rescinded.

Unlucky Dave.

GF cant read the handwriting - maybe a doctor's prescription 555. Or maybe they spotted you taking photos of something you were not supposed to.

Not sure I would go back again and stir the pot though, but 'up to you' of course...

Good luck.

The mystery deepens, my Thai wife can't give an explanation either.Do you have a Thai friend who can go with you ? otherwise pretty pointless in just rocking up yourself, might be add ons.

Might be a case for TV's Beetlejuice he's got family police connections we are led to believe.

Okay so you jumped a red light or something like that , they have the registration of your bike / car , I thought , and I have seen it in other threads that they send the summons to your house.

It can be up to a year before you tax your vehicle again .

I don't know about you but I can not remember where I was driving a year ago.

The offense is you went straight...or turned?... when you were not allowed/suppose too.

(Faa Feun Bpaai Haam Bpai Dtrong )......... If you copy & paste this...ฝ่าฝืนป้ายห้ามไปตรง

into this .....http://www.thai2english.com/ you will see the result

While I can read & write Thai....(not fluently) I could not read that at all but

my wife could

Mania , That is roughly what I put in post number 8 , but I think there is a red light involved.

No Fai mentioned though?...

Although with that writing anything is possible smile.png

If I had to guess based on the high incidence this past year

at Narrawat bridge for turning left on red I guess that one could be a possibility?

Although they seemed to stop everyone they may have had their hands full

& just caught his plate....Or even saw someone else & got one digit or letter of the license plate wrong

& Dave got unlucky

This type of ticket should not be allowed without at least a photo but TIT eh wink.png

Yes he is mysteriously silent here.

It's for stopping at a traffic light with your front wheel over the white line.

The policeman walks out of his little traffic light office, takes a photo of all the bike number plates from the back, then goes back in his office.

You don't know it's happened.

The photos all get examined later in the office, and fines are posted out to the registered address of the m/c.

The original letter would have had a photo attached.

You didn't get the letter, or have changed address since buying the m/c.

So they send it on to the tax office and increase the fine for non-payment.

They did this photo trick a lot just after the Junta took power.

Especially at the Maya intersection.

Seem to have lost interest recently.

Yes that is a common practice in front of Airport Mall too.

But the writing on Dave2's ticket said nothing along those lines.

Which words do you see that indicates it is for crossing the line?
