Khon Kaen students protest at coup during PM's speech

webfact

Recommended Posts

Prayut asked the audience, "is there anybody else wanting to protest?"

The five were taken to an army camp for registration of their protest.

A whole new lexicon is appearing;

coup - intervention

protesting against a coup - not understanding

and now we have

"registration"?........................................coffee1.gif

Eventually we could have 'special treatment'. See Schindlers list.

Oh come on, what is happening here is nothing like the holocaust.

Let's try to stay real.

Yes, it is not good that protest is curbed, but Schindler's list, no, not at all on that scale.

PM asserts readiness to visit all areas in country, listen to criticism

By Digital Content

BANGKOK, Nov 19 -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited Khon Kaen and Kalasin provinces to follow up measures to address drought problem and inspect the operations of Damrongtham centres, the country's local complaint centres.

Gen Prayut said he is open to criticism but if his government performs well, opponents should not blame it.

While leaving Bangkok for Khon Kaen, Gen Prayut said he would listen to local peoples' problems and needs especially in relation to water management.

He would also inspect job creation for farmers. He asked local people not to create any conditions of conflict which, he said, would otherwise block solutions.

"Severe drought is expected next year so there must be plans to cope with it and jobs must be created for farmers to earn income," Gen Prayut said.

Responding to leaflets which state that the Northeast does not welcome dictatorship, Gen Prayut said there were people with different [political] stances and they should express [their] opinions politely.

"I would like people to look at the facts and see if I am as accused. If I am so, I will be ready to improve. I consider criticism as a boost for my work morale. If my trip does not make any good outcome, criticism will be welcomed but if it creates good results, do not put any blame on me," the prime minister said. (MCOT online news)

listen to criticism yea right, if you have an opinion you will be dragged off, just like he has ordered everyone else to be. I wish he would just stop with all these blatant lies and try and be a real leader.

PM says he's not disheartened by student protest
By Digital Content

KHON KAEN, Nov 19 - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said that he did not feel disheartened by the protest by students he encountered Wednesday during his trip to the Northeast, which is a stronghold of anti-coup movements.

Five students from Khon Kaen University wore black shirts with an anti-coup message showing a three-finger salute, a symbolic gesture showing opposition to the May 22 coup, to Gen Prayut as he was about to speak at Khon Kaen Provincial Hall to launch the campaign to assist drought victims in the region.

Speaking to reporters on the matter, Gen Prayut pointed out that disagreement could happen anytime and anywhere and said he can tolerate it as long as people expressed their disagreements and differences peacefully.

He said he does not view this as obstacle to his job and said he would try to [improve] understanding and adjust the attitude of these people.

Following their interruption, the five students were escorted out of the hall. They were reportedly taken for attitude adjustment.

The prime minister also said he will also visit the northern and the southern regions to get first hand information about problems of local people.

Gen Prayut’s trip to the Northeast was intended to inspect drought crisis management in the region. The prime minister is scheduled to return to Bangkok this evening. (MCOT online news)

I wonder how much they got paid by Thaksin? Publicity stunts are right up his alley. IMO more stunts like this will be taking place in the near distant future to try and illigitimize the current government and bring back the popular Thaksin clan from self exile. Why he is so interested in politics is frightening, try a new hobby such as basket weaving or stamp collecting?

How could this happen at such a high profile event with the PM of Thailand speaking at the time this protest occured. It could have been much worse, what if they wanted to attack or hurt the PM. If this was the U.S.A this would be top of the world news headlines. Security at PM events must be tightened and thank god nothing terrible did happen today. I fully expect these protesters to be locked up for such a dangerous prank. They are lucky they weren't shot by security.

They just didn't understand and were taken to an Army- camp, where things were "explained" to them...

And where they were 'sized' for uniforms in preparation for an apprenticeship in the far south. I really hope they go easy on these brave souls, but it would seem unlikely....

Call this government or the last dozen governments anything you want. Doesn't change anything.

Call an election and use reform as a means to win the election.

Sure, there will be lies and cheating (as always) but give it another 100 years and maybe a slightly less corrupt bunch of individuals will lead the country forward.

fab4, remember Red Shirt Schools and villages by any chance?

Yes, and? Pray tell what relevance red shirt schools for democracy have to do with anything juntacentric, let alone students who had the temerity to protest against the coup being taken away to an army camp involuntarily for "registration".

I'll save you the bother, none.....................................coffee1.gif

Stopping the Shiniwatras line their own pockets with corrupt government and shady deals this is reform. Reform to stop this kind of thing happening again. Manipulating the masses of poor Thais just to benefit ones own family wealth is a disgrace to the word democracy. Reform will bring democracy, going back to Taksinomics isn't an option any more.

baboon your right as the question is who is the bravest the ex army chief now PM fighting for democracy after years of corruption or a handful of students pulling a prank wearing t shirts, that could have been misinterpreted as a terrorist attack or assasination attempt? Bravery isn't the same as stupidity.

fab4 just voicing my democratic freedom of speech.

Did the irony of that statement pass you by when you were writing it, or did you think it would back up your "argument" in some strange way?..........................................coffee1.gif

All is forgiven, we must move forward and not dwell in the past. Reunite, reform. reset Thailand for the better of Thai people.

I have read stuff with more meaning on the back of cereal boxes. Are platitudes such as the above really all you have with which to argue?

My wife does the irony fab4 I just want for a better, brighter future for Thailand and its people.

I'll just say this - your wish is laudable, but has never, ever, come to fruition when generals have been involved...............................coffee1.gif
