I'd like to download documentaries and such to my Mac laptop so that when I travel to places where the internet isn't so reliable, I can still enjoy things on the lap.

For torrents I think Transmission is unbeatable. Simple, stable and very easy to set up and operate.

4K Video Downloader (free) is very good and fast. I also have YTD. Both are easy to use.
