Your not getting rid of the blues that easily Mods / Admin :o:D

Until the teething problems have been sorted, i'll start this and then maybe the 2 can be merged when all the other football threads have been put in here.

From the Man City web site about City's tour of China.

City play Shanghai Shenhua in Friday afternoon's World Series Tournament fixture, and here at mcfc.co.uk we have dug out a few interesting facts about our hosts and opponents.

Shanghai Shenhua were formed in 1993 by a local firm named Shenhua, which means 'flower of Shanghai'. They play in China's Super League, of which they were runners-up in 2005. Prior to the formation of the Super League, the club played in the Jia A league, winning in 1995 and 2003. They have also won the Chinese FA Cup once, and the Super Cup three times.

Home for Shenhua is the 35,000 capacity Hong Kou Stadium, and their largest supporters club is named the Blue Devils! Their home kit is all navy blue.

The vast majority of the Shenhua squad are Chinese, but they are currently augmented by three overseas players - Ivan Jovanović of Serbia & Montenegro, Luis Ramírez of Honduras and former German international target man Carsten Jancker.

Edit / Oooh, i just notice, not only do the quote functions not work in our new forum but neither do colours and font size either.

A fine victory for the mighty blues. Well, actually not that fine. Pretty poor game on a very poor pitch. Thatcher managed to get himself sent off which, considering how bad he is, is actually good news.

A special mention must go to the 4th official who managed to achieve what all City fans have been trying to do for the last 2 seasons and prevent Sibierski from getting onto the pitch.

No real sharpness or edge to our play but a good physical workout.

Daily Mirror...

'HAT'S OFF TO PEARCE'

MANCHESTER CITY target Hatem Trabelsi is set to sign for Stuart Pearce's club next week - after checks on his medical.

Tunisian World Cup right back Trabelsi made a flying visit for tests on his problem knee, but signs are that he'll join on a free from Ajax in the next 48 hours.

The Mirror also report briefly on our game in Shanghai yesterday...

'SAMARAS ON TARGET'

Shanghai Shenhua 0 Manchester City 1

GEORGIOS SAMARAS gave Manchester City victory and left boss Stuart Pearce satisfied with his team's battling display despite Ben Thatcher's sending off.

Samaras found new signing Bernardo Corradi's precise 35th-minute pass to sink the Chinese Super League side.

Corradi impressed but City were forced back for much of the second half and had to play the final 13 minutes with 10 men after Thatcher went for a second bookable offence.

Pearce said: "It was a very competitive game against a very tough side. I'm very pleased with my team and players."

To all the French Tony lovers and haters out there...saw this on one of the city forums after rumours of Birmingham coming in for Sibierski..

The Lords Player

Our Tony,

Who scores one in eleven,

50p-head be thy name,

The chances come,

Goals wont be done,

At COMS as it is in Training,

Give (Steve) Bruce this day your shiny head,

And forgive us your misplaced-passes,

As we forgive those who got past against us,

And lead you not into China,

But deliver you from City,

For thine is the corner flag,

The goal kick,

And the mis-kick,

Forever and ever.

AMEN

By Joel Perry (j.perry at mondiale.co.uk)

That said, what a cracking header in the 2nd game, thought he was a huge improvement just by not falling over so often or feigning injury, and as for the "WHO ARE YOU!!!" comments on the soundtrack from Steve Wigley during Tony's attempt to come on as a substitute but was prevented from it by the man in "mystery" main in black (bet he was a city fan on tour) - just classic!
