The tattoo on the dead man's left calf featured a swastika, symbol of the Nazi régime.

PHUKET: The body of a man was found floating in the sea near Kata Noi Beach by Marine Biology Centre scientists this morning (November 27).

Chaiyamongkul Yamaroonpattana from the Phuket Marine Biological Centre, told Karon Police that while the scientists were surveying the marine life in the area, they noticed the body floating in the sea about one kilometre from Kata Noi Beach.

They towed the body to shore in front of Kata Thani Hotel.

Identification is proving difficult due to the state of the body. But police said the man was tall, between 180 and 190 cm, was wearing only swimming shorts and had a tattoo featuring a swastika on the left calf, suggesting he might be a Westerner.

The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for examination to see if there might be other clues to the man’s identity

Pol Lt Nipon Temsong of Karon Police said the man had been dead for at least a week and confirmed that no missing persons reports had been filed in the Karon area in that time. Police are now looking into missing persons reports from further afield.

Anyone recognizing the tattoo is urged to call Karon Police station at 076 333 362.

Seems like their is a change of tactics in the air. Not had many condo suicide jumpers lately! Difficult to put CCTV in the ocean i suppose. No one can tell me that all these bodies floating in the sea are accidents. This place is a murderous destination for tourists.

Really strange though, there seem to be a few bodies being washed up on the shore lately. The police will investigate so don't worry we will soon know the truth!

If the guy were a neo-Nazi, or wanting to appear to be, there is a particular design that is the Nazi swastika. This plainly isn't a Nazi swastika.

Not only that, but it seems from the style of the tattoo that the purpose is more towards the decorative abstract motif side of the spectrum not the declarative in-you face NAzi symbol and the swastika is almost incidental as part of the design. At any rate, the guy wasn't going out of his way to rub his Nazi persuasion in anyone's face. But, these distinctions are not really important, it's better to find some excuse to dismiss the guy as a scum bag so that we don't have to be concerned or investigate what happened.
