Samui grated more Bangkok Airways flights

KOH SAMUI: -- According to a report in the Bangkok post Koh Samui has been granted permission to raise its flight frequencies, the move came about after the authorities were convinced the increase would not harm the environment, particularly the levels of noise.

The Civil Aviation Department have granted permission for the airport, operated by Bangkok Airways to raise the flight count from 36 a day to 50 a day, effective from November 24th.

The approval has come just in time for Koh Samui’s peak travel period when the island is particularly popular among international tourists. Executives from Bangkok Airways have said that the new flight total will be meted out to scheduled and charter airlines as needed.

Bangkok Airways ramped up its daily frequencies on November 19th through the airport to around 40 mainly on its Bangkok rout that serves 30 flights a day.

The airline also operates flights from Koh Samui to Chiang Mai, Krabi, U-tapao, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. This year, Koh Samui expects to handles 32-45 flights a day, an average of 38.5 between 6am and 10pm, the period when aircraft take-offs and landings are allowed. The other international airlines operating through Koh Samui are Thai Airways International, Singapore’s SilkAir, Malaysia Airlines subsidiary Firefly and charter-only China Eastern. Bangkok Airways has sounded cautiously optimistic about a tourism recovery in Thailand, telling the SET recently that the industry would improve marginally. BA shares closed yesterday on the SET at 22.40 baht, unchanged, in trade worth 110 million baht.

ADMIN.

There is a big difference between being granted and being grated. Try it.

I am just glad I don't live on the flight path, my ears would be grating all day! wink.pngbah.gif
